Me and my father were discussing how good a non M V8 E36 or E46 would be the other day, no expensive M servicing costs etc...

The V8 looks right at home in there and would make a fun drive i'd imagine

My understanding is that they are the same engine. Alpina developed it and BMW used them in the X5's later on. The 4.6 engine ended up in a number of Alpina Chasis from the 3 series up as well.
