tobester 9 Report post Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) Hi people, Previously had an '86 E30 325i and a 93 E36 325i. About to sell off our Golf tdi because we no longer need to do huge ks for cheap and my wife has told me to get something more fun to drive, so I think another BM is in order. Currently looking for another NZ new E30 325i with a sunroof in good condition. Ideally a Motorsport, but I know these are as rare rocking horse manure, and if I can't get one, then at least a manual I can get a suspension package and an LSD for. This looks amazing, but is slightly beyond my budget; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=438891813 On a slightly different tack, this looks awesome too; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=435926390 Keen to hear thoughts and suggestions. BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) M535i is a rare car in NZ, in black too. 218hp 310nm will wip lots of cars on the road including most e30's swap the tall geared 3.07lsd for a 3.64 3.73 etc. millar maf conversion with a remap and you have a quick car or just keep it as it is, as they will get about 8L per 100km on a trip and about 11L per 100km around town etc Edited May 10, 2012 by Brent HARTGE535i

Car is completely original and unmolested .....still a quick drive. No rust at all, no accident damage. Unfortunately not LSD., but ABS, manual sunroof, electric windows. Full leather with front recaros .......all in excellent condition. I've been thinking of selling for a little while, saw your post. Price wise not too sure ...... guess it is only worth what someone will pay. By the way I have driven the e28 535i as listed above ........ nice car in very good condition ....did have a slight miss though which the owner put down to lack of use. Keen to hear thoughts and suggestions.

Just drove back from Morrinsville where we looked at this thismorning; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=471020748 Looks awesome. Assume this is basically a facelift version of yours Murray. Someone will have a ball, but we just discovered that my 5 ft tall wife can't reach the pedals well enough in a manual E30, even with the leather Recaros, so it looks like it will either have to be an auto, or something more adjustable for us. Good luck with your sale.

I reckon in 5 years or so an unmolested manual 325i will be quite a rare beast. Good luck with your search. Cheers Murray

Mark 178 Report post Posted May 19, 2012 That car has been on Trademe for probably 18 months or so... the price has slowly come down from $15k to where it is now. Still too expensive in my opinion, but it appears to be in ok condition. I've seen mint condition examples of the M535i (albeit auto versions) go for around $6k. If you're keen on this car I'd have it checked out thoroughly by a BMW specialist and negotiate hard on the price.

I thought it drove brilliantly, but some other things weren't quite right. Also, I'm guessing that the autos don't have a LSD and with the grunt/wheelbase/ suspension combination I'd prefer a stick shifter, esp in the wet. Anyone you recommend to check the car in the Welly area?
tobester 9 Report post Posted May 20, 2012 While I'm thinking about it, I did like the E36 325i coupe we had a lot too, but would want something slightly different next time around. Anyone want to sell an NZ New E36 328i coupe out there, again pref Motorsported and sunroof?

tobester 9 Report post Posted May 28, 2012 ahhh yes is he the guy out whitby way? That's the guy. I've chatted to Phil a couple of times since and had an appraisal done now on the M535i. He's been really good to deal with.
tobester 9 Report post Posted August 1, 2012 So, in the end after getting Phil Patterson to have a check, I drove to Welly on a starry night a few weekends ago. Sold the Golf to a friend the next day and bought the M535i with a bit of change to reinvest. After a nervous ride back on some badly worn tyres and over the last couple of weeks the car has had a birthday sized service, a set of 16x7s with 225 rubber to retire the metrics, an alarm, a set of seat badges and a glovebox aux in for the head unit. Once the horrible too small single pipe rear muffler is biffed later this week for an oem twin piper and after a bit of waxing and leather treating, I'll be pretty stoked with it. Thanks to all those who contributed their thoughts and suggestions.

There is a palce out the Hutt to but i cant remember the name Hutt City European on Wakefeild Street? crap service for me when i used to get my first E30 done there before i knew anything about BMWs or cars. Also the Mercedes i just brought and sold came with a file of reciepts of things that had been replaced by that outfit which certainly weren't a year or so old nor 5000kms. So they obviously havent changed, and makes me wonder if i got ripped back in the day too. They have a lot of cars going through there though, i pass them most days
