liyi_92 37 Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Hey guys, Anyone had any experience with these cars. The R171 Slk350. The year I am looking at is more specifically 2005 (2004 is first year model). Fast? Comfortable? Reliable? Pros? Cons? I think they look extremely good. Opinions guys? Thanks -Andy
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted July 7, 2012 That's the wife version! Get the SLK55... the sound alone is worth 10 V6 versions IMO.

Michael. 2313 Report post Posted July 7, 2012 This is for the wife. Haha. Ideal then. Although I would wonder if there are any quality issues with such a 'cheaper' range of Merc models....
deeveus 81 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 That's the wife version! Get the SLK55... the sound alone is worth 10 V6 versions IMO. Word. I've driven one and they are a shitload of fun, with the roof down the sound is like god snoring.
M5V8 337 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 parents have a SL350 whilst a nice car the build quality of these are questionable. alot of cheap plastic floating around in the cabin also put me off. drove nice tho. Just needed more punch than the V6
deeveus 81 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 The SL would be quite a bit heavier I'd imagine than the SLK.

Just needed more punch than the V6 Had a look at this SL350, I love the shape but the engine is a bit underpowered for the size and weight of that car. Wife isnt keen on "double eye" shape headlights. Also most are SL's sold here are SL500 which I would say is the wiser choice.
NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 If this is the one which looks like a mini SLR then I think they look the business. Why not go onto one of the US based Mercedes forums? Should be lots of info.
M5V8 337 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 i have to agree. I like the double light design looks closer to the McLaren of the time. I'm not so much of a fan of the facelift car or their newer fatface design as I call it. But I have to admit the interior quality of their cars have improved with every redesign. My mates 2010 C63 AMG is almost as good as my 2002 E39 M5.
deeveus 81 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 My mates 2010 C63 AMG is almost as good as my 2002 E39 M5. I'd kill to drive one of those. The noise they make alone is epic.
M5V8 337 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 yeah i have to admit it's the best sounding engine going. The auto blips on downshifts and the crackling exhaust on overun. Of course there's the 23l+/100km fuel costs for that....lol...
liyi_92 37 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) My friends business partner bought a 2010 C63 AMG 2 years ago brand new from Armstrong prestige, last year he sold it and upgraded to an 2011 E63 AMG again brand new. Now he test drove the 2012 GTR and said will be changing to that soon. And for his wife, he originally bought her a Audi Q7, last year sold the Q7 and bought a E92 M3 2009. Now the M3 is gone in place of that is a 2012 ML220 BlueEfficiency brand new of course. Off topic but the C63 chat always brings this up in my head. Jo Blogs 11 Report post Posted July 12, 2012 Word. I've driven one and they are a shitload of fun, with the roof down the sound is like god snoring. I got passed by one on the way to Taupo once. The noise they make is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!! I would buy one just on that basis
deeveus 81 Report post Posted July 23, 2012 Of course there's the 23l+/100km fuel costs for that....lol... Easy lol. My CLK 55 AMG was bloody good on fuel, averaged about 12 from memory & that thing sounded like a wounded animal also.
