if its an E30 like your alias thing says then quickest thing would be to call your local locksmith and get him to make you a key. if its a '93 or so onwards car its pretty much dealer only

Remote inbuilt...Diamond key.

Mine was less than that including GST from Milland.

Care to share with us the cost? My girl has just informed me that she can't find the keys to my E39 :(

Might have to have a real man's look when I get home! :P

It was about $320-ish, inc. It was a RF Diamond key.

I have two remote keys, but you can get a manual key (only really good for emergencies coz of the cheap-ass locks) for about $180 I think.

Probably good to have a really good look. They're far from the most expensive keys, but it's still money that coul dbe spent of the cheap-ass cooling system or worn out suspension

slightly off topic but kinda on topic too :)

I heard an ad on the radio yesterday for some place (wish I could remember the name) that can make copies of keys that have the factory security chips in them for half the price of a standard replacement from the dealer, for almost any make and model car, and within a day or 2

just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone is thinking of getting a spare key, but I imagine you would need an original key for them to be able to copy the ews chip etc, ie I don't think they can reproduce a key just from your vin

if I hear it again I'll update this with the company's name

I got a genuine infrared remote from Glenn.

Think it was araound $470 from memory.

Good service, and I don't want to be in the situation where my key doesn't work, hence why I was happy to pay more.

Actually come to think of it, I'll be up for an IR one if I can't find where they've gone. Just my luck that they'd be dearer than the RF ones. Least I still have a non remote spare at home.

I dunno if the infrared ones are more or not. Mine was just WAY cheaper from Milland, than the Auckland dealer I phoned. (plus the dealer told me I couldn't get another part I wanted, so Milland got me one all in BMW packaging and everything)
