ticking noise coming from the engine, e36 328i

Recently I have noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine. It sometimes goes away but will then come back.

Any advice, ideas??

could be a sticky lifter or 2 ,

do you change the oil regulary or did the past owners do so??

try some lifter cleaner in a bottle add to the oil,

oil flush etc .

Cool cheers will try that, the car is due for a service in about a month or so. I do change the oil regularly but have no service history from the previous owners.

A bit off topic, but changing the primary cam chain tensioner spring is a 10 minute $12 job and works wonders to reduce the thrashiness.
