Allanw 1071 Report post Posted September 2, 2012 Damaged 540i Thoughts on "Lucas" branded stuff? Any product that claims to "fix" a problem which should be fixed by replacing a part (in this case, likely a seal of some kind) is asking for trouble. This engine probably had a minor leak of some kind, and a broken chain tensioner (it's quite common on the V8's) and the Lucas MAY have pushed it over the edge. I think it would have been a LOT cheaper to have just fixed it the proper way.

I personally have never had a prob' with Lucas stuff, but then i've only ever used there oils and never any of their "mechanic in a can" stuff. I think that seller may be opening themsevles up making allegations on a public site.
NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted September 2, 2012 I've been told that sometimes these products can cause any varnish or sludge inside the engine to be dislodged and can then become stuck or lodged in various places. Perhaps this is what's happened here.
