E39 Airbag light ON

Recommended Posts

So my little lad trampolined on the passenger seat and buggered the seat occupancy sensor. After that I bought a couple of replacement secondhand comfort seats from Brent that he'd tested. Unfortunately, I didn't realise the driver's side didn't have the wire harness for the steering column adjuster when I swapped the seats over. Anyway, the long and the short of it is that everything works on the new seats - except the steering column adjuster - but I can't reset the airbag fault.

The reader says the airbag control module is faulty. Prior to installing the replacement seats I had been able to reset the airbag fault (though it would come back everytime my son managed to get into the front seat) but after installation the airbag light can't be reset. I didn't test the seats prior but Brent assures me he did so I don't think it's the sensor in the new seat.

Would the inoperative steering column adjuster trigger the fault code? I'm going to swap the bases over soon to get it working again but wondered if anyone had any ideas.

The control unit coding is probably different for the original optioned seats

Any way round it or will I have to assemble working seats from the two sets I have using the original bases and wiring?
