Large case vs Medium case

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if it's possible to modify the E36 325/328 rear subframe to accommodate a large case diff without resorting to trying to find one off an M3. Looking at a V8 project some time in the nearish future & would like a few hints if I can get 'em.

Ta :)

You could modify it but it'd be cheaper to get an m3 back end. You still need half shafts etc to make it work

I'm sure a medium case will hold up to most of the punishment you could give it.

Sweet. Was wondering if it would just be a case of fabricating new brackets or if it would be a massive pita. Probably option 2.

Are there any sites out there that list maximum torque loads for BMW diffs & gearboxes?

med case good for upto about 400hp

any way you loose RWKW with large diff ,

I lost about 8-10rwkw when changing the e34 544i med diff to a large case diff.

Heh, I worried about this with my V8 setup using a 188mm differential

After doing some research on the matter & taking into account I'm running less than 300hp / 400nm it seems there's nothing to worry about, many M50/M52 turbo guys are putting out another 50% on top of those figures and still not breaking the diff.
