Arma 134 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 So I had my radiator and water pump replaced in my 520i last month as they were leaking. Also had main drive idler and tensioner replaced at Botany Motorworxx. I knew there were existing oil leaks, but none of them were major back then (that I knew of). The invoice noted the following leaks and I'm wondering which, if any, of them are major (as in I should get it fixed immediately and shouldn't drive the car). Also wondering if any of them are very expensive repairs, or just fairly cheap and worth getting out the way: - Rocker cover gasket leaking - Vanos hose leaking - Dipstick breather tube leaking - Possible leak from oil filter remote housing - Possible leak from sump gasket Thanks in advance for your wisdom
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 To be fair ANY leak is not ideal. You would be best to resolve all of them. The vanos one would be my priority, then the rocker cover gasket etc
Allanw 1071 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 I'd do all except the sump. The sump is a total pig of a job, and he only says possible - the others are likely to leak - fairly common problems, the sump is a rarer issue. The rocket cover can start to leak onto the exhaust, cuasing burning smells and smoke. Once the others are done, you may find the sump has nothing wrong. The oil from the oil filter housing gets everywhere - made my sump look quite wet.
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) The rocker cover gasket, vanos hose and oil dipstick breather hose are leaking. They would need replacing, clean off and recheck after a week or so of driving. The remote housing and sump gasket may not be leaking. Dealing with oil leaks.... you start at the top and work down, only replacing what you know or can see is definitely leaking. Arma 134 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Cool, thanks guys. Will try to get those leaks fixed soon. Hope it doesn't end up costing me an arm and a leg to repair - have replaced so many parts in that 520i now I lost count .
