58rabbit 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 I have this problem where the heater fan is running constantly even when the key is removed from the ignition and the aircon display is totally dead. this happened very suddenly after getting out of the car last night. to stop the fan from draining the battery I have disonnnected the battery. can anyone give me some tips as to what the problem might be? and how can I isolate the fan in the meantime? tmase 19 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 Final stage resistor unit, very common, luckily it's not too hard to replace. Ray at Hell BM might be able to sort you a replacement. I've changed two in my E39 in the past.

allan 295 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 As stated a common problem get a new one as they have been improved upon, pull the heater fuse from the main fuse box the card should tell you which one it is.
tmase 19 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 In behind the dash, you can reach it from the drivers foot well if you remove some trim. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143393 should help, just remember you have a RHD car not a LHD one
allan 295 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 Left hand side of the drivers foot well it's behind the covers tucked away in the heater matrix, plenty of write ups on how to replace them about 20 minutes from memory.
