_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted November 2, 2013 Yes i need to ask an E30 question lol 1991 Facelift E30 Cab Premium Audio Package An aftermarket stereo has been fitted at some stage quite possibly from new, but its an old unit, it is a Sherwood unit. Anyways, luckily the car side of the factory wiring plug isn't molested at all. But on the radio side it has this filter on the power line as shown in the photo below. Now i haven't swapped a headunit on an E30 with the premium audio package before Now i do know what the filter does, but should I reuse this filter again when I put the new headunit in, or is it likely to be built into all modern units? It has no BMW roundle or part numbers etc on it, so i assume it came as part of the Sherwood unit. Just want to confirm! Thanks team

e30ftw 410 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Going by where it sits on the loom, it's part of the Sherwood unit's loom and the connectors sit after it, so I'd imagine you just dump that part and attach connectors from the new headunit to the end to use that white plug again. Then again I have no idea what the filter does
Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I was under the impression noise filters are introduced to compensate for crappy HU earthing? Have seen them on installs before but never as part of the manufacturers loom. Bang the new unit in, if it hums then set up the filter
