RhoanW 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 My car is a 2002 E39 530i. I did a scan on it yesterday and while doing the scan I had it running. It seemed like all went well like always and I unplugged the scanner and turned off the car. Two hours later I decided to go home so I tried starting but it wouldn't start. I tried 3 times but the engine just wouldn't fire. I suspected the battery could be low so I removed it and put it on charge for a couple of hours. I then tried again but the same thing. I then hooked up the scanner again and checked for possible codes and got EWS anti tampering protection. I reset that code and re-tried but still nothing. I then sent for my spare key and tried and still no joy. My question is what else can I try, I am waiting on a specialist to show up but he says he has a few cars dealing with at the moment so I am on my own with for a good while it seems? *Glenn* 854 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 That scanner causes you more trouble than what it's worth. If it doesn't "fix it'self" like last time, it might be a tow to the dealers. Or you can ship it here. Jamaica to here shouldn't cost too much
RhoanW 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 Sounds like one way shipping. I am going to try a new battery out of my pickup and see if it will start; if not I called a BMW specialist to come look at it. I suppose the worse case scenario would be having to replace the EWS am I correct?

The "actual" fault needs to be diagnosed first and go from there. Is the tamper fault still coming up ?
RhoanW 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 I didn't put back the scanner because I was unsure if it was causing the problem.
RhoanW 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 SOLUTION... Glenn got a specialist to reprogram the EWS and the keys. It works now. Thanks for the help as usual.

_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted January 16, 2014 when the problem happened, was the car actually on and idling or just in the ON position without the engine actually running? what scanner are you using out of interest? i have never had a problem with mine and gets used at least once a month, only problem is that stuff comes up in german but google translates that pretty good.
