Driftit 2078 Report post Posted July 22, 2014 Ok. Im guessing not a bmw v8? Not if they use timing belts. That tech is long gone in the world of BMW's
yng_750 247 Report post Posted July 23, 2014 Might come across as service but sending you two replacments no questions asked seems like a combination of no confidence in the product ( otherwise why send two) and margins so high they can afford to throw engines away. Seems to me like amateur hour

euroriffic 607 Report post Posted July 23, 2014 What use are two timing belts when you have a f**ked engine??
handgrenade 189 Report post Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Not all engines grenade when they throw a timing belt. Only interference engines which the piston moves into the space where valves extend to. That's when you end up with broken valves and damaged pistons. Non interference engines will just stop running. You would have to realign all the timing and cams etc but no real different from just a normal timing belt replacement Edited July 24, 2014 by handgrenade
euroriffic 607 Report post Posted July 24, 2014 Yea but generally 9/10 it's an interference head if it's a newer motor. Luckily my mums car wasn't when the water pump seized and stripped all the teeth off the cambelt. Nice easy fix
