MISS BM 712 Report post Posted August 5, 2014 Odd question, but curious if anybody may potentially know the answer. Is BMW warranty on their new cars, globally accepted? Eg: You purchase a brand new BMW from another country, let it move countries with you, and then claim that warranty in another country?? Weird question, but thought no harm in asking if anyone may know the answer. I'm pretty sure it's not a global warranty, but still in the hopes it could be given it's a brand new car.. Not sure dealers would be happy so can see the chances being slim.
ntaylor90 10 Report post Posted August 5, 2014 From BMW"There is a worldwide 2-year warranty on all vehicles from the date of initial registration (i.e. in the UK) which will be honoured locally. To facilitate the processing of an International Warranty, the owner or importer will be required to supply certain information to an authorised BMW Dealer. Once the authorised BMW Dealer has received notification from BMW Group New Zealand Limited that the vehicle details are correct, the warranty claim work can be carried out by the authorised BMW Dealer, and a warranty claim will then be facilitated by the authorised BMW Dealer and BMW Group New Zealand Limited. The authorised BMW Dealer may require the owner or importer to pay for the full or partial repair upon its completion (at the authorised BMW Dealers discretion). Once the claim is processed and accepted, the owner or importer will be reimbursed the amount credited to the authorised BMW Dealer by BMW Group. Any value not credited by BMW Group must be absorbed by the owner or importer and is at their risk. Any additional local overseas service or extended warranty programs are not covered locally and any claims under those policies should be directed back to the original vehicle importer. Clarification of the warranty on imported vehicles can be obtained from the authorised BMW Dealer Network."Hope that helps
MISS BM 712 Report post Posted August 5, 2014 Thanks for that - found it when I went on a hunt, does warranty become void as soon as you sell the vehicle?
E30 325i Rag-Top 2956 Report post Posted August 5, 2014 No, the warranty is transferred with the vehicle, it becomes void after the time period not change of ownership. There are other conditions, such as the vehicle is serviced in line with the BMW recommendations and by an approved BMW Service outlet. Key point to note is that it is only 2 years, and from the date of first registration in the original country. The current 5 year warranty is a local NZ warranty and that is not transferrable to another country.

Cheers for that - I read somewhere on the BMW NZ that is was void once you 'dispose' of the vehicle, but might re-read that one again.
