MLee 35 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, Does anybody know of an E46 M3 available for hire in the Wellington area? Devine rentals have one, but it is located in Auckland. Edited January 6, 2015 by MLee

MLee 35 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Ohhh don't say that! It was released only yesterday, right? Timeless, but yes getting old. Cheers guys, I'll go harass some car yards...

MLee 35 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Absolutely. I own an E36 M3 and was interested to compare the two.

Haitoman 110 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 The only obvious difference on city streets will be cosmetic as there is not an awful lot between them in a straight line (not that I've driven a M36 M3).
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted January 8, 2015 Probably can do one better as I drive a lot of m3s all the time of all types. E46 is more planted on the road in the twisties ... its very forgiving but still has the fun factor. The e36 will feel slightly more nimble up to about 80%, but beyond this is where the e46 shines. The throttle response takes a bit to get use too with drive by wire, however it has a lot of hidden benefits over the s50b3x engines. The s50 is more of a raw engine which I personally prefer however the e46 chassis and interior sh*ts all over the e36. Having a tuned (not just mapped) s54 makes a lot of difference also. It brings back a lot of the 'softening' BMW programmed into the MSS54 DME.
MLee 35 Report post Posted January 8, 2015 A better question might then have been: Somebody in Wellington willing to let me try their e46 M3? You might be surprised. You're right! Pleasantly surprised. Lot's of good people around here. I'm sure we can arrange something...I'm in Paekakariki. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Thanks mate, a kind offer. I'm in no great rush, but I'll certainly bare it in mind. But looking ahead - the only way I can see to replace an M3, is with an M3 - indoctrination I say. Although an S50 in an E30 would be bloody awesome. It would be a tricky pick... Overall appearance: E46 Ease of maintenance: E36 Performance: E46 Cost value factor: E36 Fun factor: E46 = E36?
