e30ftw 410 Report post Posted May 9, 2015 Pretty sure if you used the cams and trays from the M50 NV head, and the front timing cover plate from the NV head once you have removed the VANOS unit, it would be the exact same.

Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) Need to make your own vanos blanking plate as the TU head has a slightly different cutout for the vanos unit. Stock blanking plates leave a tiny gap on the exhaust side of the TU head at roughly 7 o'clock. Took me about 60 minutes to knock one out by hand using a hacksaw & file and a flat bit of 5mm junk ali. Not pretty but it worked Edited May 9, 2015 by Ahmedsinc
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted May 10, 2015 Just done the same to m52 vanos head. Use nv cams, cradles, timing gear and front timing covers and I think nv rocker cover.

Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) No worries Andy, the following is all the stuff I can remember that we did. M52 or 54 block and head, if M54 you need to blank the DISA holes under the intake manifold in the head. M50 non vanos intake and TB M50 loom and 402 ECU, 403 and 405 will also work, M50 non vanos harmonic balancer, important for the sensor that it's non vanos one, different pickup to the rest. M50 sensors, cam, crank, tps iat, etc. M54 intake cam, M50 non vanos intake cam on exhaust side, in exhaust cam cradle, not intake cradle. Home made bits to lock the cams off, Set cams to fully open vanos state, that's where the best power should be. M54B30 injectors with modified loom, removed the plastic housing, M52 fuel rail, just bent the pipes to clear the manifold. Will add to this as I remember more stuff. Feel free to get in touch if you need any more. Edited May 12, 2015 by Silver Fox
Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 M54B30 injectors with modified loom, removed the plastic housing, Did you rotate the injectors 180* to have the nozzles pointing in the right direction, thereby fouling the connectors against the intake manifold? Or just left them in the same orientation as the M50 ones? Apologies for the thread jack, Andy
