E28 offset

Recommended Posts

Hey team... To all my wheels experts out there, will a set of BBS RS 16" wheels fit my e28 with a 33 offset (ET33). Or will they sit in too much?

If so, what are your thoughts on spacers?

You'll need 15 to 20mm spacers to get them to sit right.

what david said

needs to be around Et20 etc

I have bbs 16" by 8" et 23 from a e38 7 series , (use them with the semi slicks) 225/50-16

the 16" are so close to the strut tube and some tyres with wide curb protectors will rub on the strut tube

normally have e34 m5 17' by 8" ET20 with 235/45-17"

once I had 17" by 8" with Et10 same 235/45 tyres and they rub in the rear arches under load

but not at the front

see pics below

by the way

do you need a brake upgrade 540i 302mm by 28mm front brakes :) have a set for sale

also e31 rears 324mm by 12mm

just upgraded again to e31 850ci front brakes 324mm by30mm

Hey cheers Brent for the advice. Such a lovely car you have there. I just bought an M535i like yours. I think I'll have to run a 15mm spacer for them to work well. Thanks for fhe offer but i have the brake upgrade already!

I have nothing to contribute other than do this.

These were 17x9 et10 bbs RF001 I think on my old e28. Unfortunately this was about as far as I got with it before it got written off.

Hi Guys, sorry for jumping on this thread but I have a question. I have bought a set of BBS RS 740/741s in staggered fitment - 17x8 et20 and 17x9 et26. I know the fronts are going to be fine as I already have these on the car but my rear tires which are also 17x8 et20 rub a little under suspension compression. Before I fit new tires (245 40s) on the wheels I thought I'd quickly ask if any of you have tried this size on an E28 before? If so did you have to roll the rear guard/how much? I've heard of guys running up to 10inch on the rear of their E28s but I can't see how they would without serious "massaging" of the rear arches.

Thanks!

Haha, I just got a set of wheels in 17x8 ET20 and 17x9 ET26 and the plan is to fit 225/45 front and 245/40 at the back too. My arches are factory rolled but from posts on mye28.com they seem to fit, just. Is your car lowered?

Yes it's lowered, not sure how much but I think about 40-50mm from memory. I think the squareness of the tire you choose will play a role in whether or not it rubs. I'm running Dunlop SP Sport Maxx's and as I said on my 8in wheels they rub when I have people in the back and the suspension compresses. I'm hoping by fitting them to 9in wheels it will curve the sidewall slightly and actually help with clearance. Let me know how you go and I'll keep you posted when I get the car back and fit the wheels. What style wheels did you get?
