NakiTouring 54 Report post Posted February 25, 2016 Did you guys flash alpina yourselves or have someone do it for you? If so who please and roughly how much. Flashed it myself. Unless you are struggling to give your money away, grab a $20 cable off Amazon, download the 4gigs of software required for coding, follow easy tutorial to install and setup and get your hands dirty. Once you have this, you can do so much more than just flash your trans. Not sure what the rules are here regarding posting urls to such online guides...personally I find it outrageous that people charge multiple hundreds for such a service when they would have learnt it from online guides in the first place... Santoshdurai 5 Report post Posted February 25, 2016 Hey guys, Installed the following parts this week, VRSF 7" Intercooler VRSF Charge pipe HKS SSQV4 BOV BMS DCI and flashed the MHD Stage1 FMIC map. The car is pulling harder than before peaking about 17-18 psi. I am very much happy with the turbo spooling music from the DCI and the Pss -- Psss sound from the HKS. I was kind of worried if the HKS would be too annoying after a while, but no.. , I started getting addicted to the sound. As our cars are well insulated HKS was not too loud as I expected and I liked it. Will post some videos of how the bov sounds when the windows are up, down and at full and low throttles. Sometimes the HKS makes these double PSS sound due to its synchoronous design which is soo cool. I was planning on installing the purple fin earlier before I got it but I think will leave it like this. The VRSF 7" Intercooler was spot on, had to cut the plastic shroud though. The VRSF Chargepipe was a direct fit like the factory C clips in the stock chargepipe and was easy to install. I got the VRSF lower charge-pipe as well so everything was a good fit. Tiago from VRSF is a helpful guy and his customer service was excellent. The products came well packed and there were no damages during shipment. Need to get the BMS Oil Catch Can and have the Intake valves cleaned to complete my Stage1 Tuning process. I talked to Ray from HellBM who gave me a quite reasonable quote for having the Alpina Trans flash installed. Will be doing this next month. Cheers..
NakiTouring 54 Report post Posted April 10, 2016 Just upgraded my MHD ECU flash today. I see now it has an option for cars equipped with the Alpina Flash. Can't say that I noticed any significant difference, although I reset the throttle adaptions, so may still be learning.
fatjoez 3 Report post Posted April 10, 2016 Did you guys flash alpina yourselves or have someone do it for you? If so who please and roughly how much. I can show you how to do it if you're local (CBD auckland) Probably best though that people get the software and flash themselves to limit hassles if something goes wrong FYI flashing Alpina including setup time etc should take max 20 minutes + on road testing time to check all is working. For a workshop to do this $200-300 is around 2.5 - 3hours labour which is a little on the high side but you should also factor in that they will be quoting buffer to allow for anything going wrong, and perhaps a little for liability insurance in case something goes really wrong. So yeah it seems a lot but that's what happens when you want someone else to do something for you & provide you a guarantee/responsibility if something goes wrong! Docile 64 Report post Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) I did mine in the driveway after being quoted $350 + GST and $250 FYI if doing yourself. make sure you have a healthy battery Edited April 10, 2016 by Docile
NakiTouring 54 Report post Posted April 10, 2016 I tend to hook up the battery charger - trickle seems to suffice. And if I'm doing a long flash with MHD, I also pull fuse number 70 to stop the LPFP constantly whirring away for 38 minutes. Depending on what you read, both ECU and TCU flashes should have a reset of adaptions after. So after the MHD update today, I reset the throttle adaptions from the app, fired up the engine, off again and disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for about 10 mins...I guess that bit's worth about 2 hundy... Just the part about on/off again. I've read multiple times that turning an engine on/off briefly isn't good in terms of flooding the engine. Seems to be conflicting comments out there about adaptations but your version makes sense.
Santoshdurai 5 Report post Posted April 25, 2016 I flashed the Alpina today with guidance from Pablo. Definitely something that anybody can do by just following the tutorials. The car felt great. Shifts are faster, smoother and crisp.
Benji335i 21 Report post Posted April 6, 2018 Bump. So who here is MHD now? It’s huge all over Europe and the states. would be cool to arrange an N54/55 etc meet!! Im FBO MHD custom tune
Navin 180 Report post Posted April 6, 2018 I've been running it for about a year now. Just the stage 1 ots map so far. Who did the custom tune on yours?
Benji335i 21 Report post Posted April 6, 2018 I have an E-tune from the states who specialise in the DCT. its stupidly quick I was contemplating upgraded turbos just stage one but not now! VRSF: Intercooler chargepipe Catless downpipes inlets OCC bmw performance exhaust that’s my set up! Have ethanol stage two fuel pump waiting in my living room haha
Navin 180 Report post Posted April 7, 2018 That sounds awesome. I have all of the above parts sitting waiting to be installed bar the catch can(n55), just have not had the time to install. Did the tune change the characteristic of the DCT at all? I cant imagine shifts getting any quicker in sport mode but there's certainly improvements to be made for normal driving. My golf gti's DSG seems to be more responsive/smarter driving around town
Benji335i 21 Report post Posted April 7, 2018 Cheers bro it’s so quick! Just ordered RHD outlets, so the turbos aren’t struggling with the added power increase. I got the DCT TCU re flashed with the latest DCT software available. Just increases the clutch plate pressure to cope more with the power increase. It shifts so quickly mate, plus the blips and burbles it does sound like an M car for sure! Traction likes to kick in a lot haha. have you done boost by gear with MHD options? And exhaust burble? Herbmiester 923 Report post Posted April 8, 2018 I have been running MHD Stage 1+ for about 12 months now and have had no issues. I have an AMS intercooler and VRSF charge pipe. I tried linear throttle mapping but didn't like it. I am keen to move to stage 2 but will need to remove the cats. My question for those that have removed the cats is how tricky is it? At Stage 1 + I am pretty happy but my issue is traction especially off the line. I might look at the torque limitation option but would be keen on people's opinions here. I could of course get off my arse and order an LSD and fix things properly.

Awesome bro, where you based if in Auckland you can see what mine is like, FBO catless with custom tune. where is the option for linear? I do boost by gear! Don’t use the exhaust burble potentially ruins longevity of your injectors! Currently traction isn’t an option, I think due to doing boost by gear, sometimes in 3rd DTC says hello! Herbmiester 923 Report post Posted April 8, 2018 Yeah well aware of the burble issues Linear throttle mapping in there but I am running V6 maps so maybe they are gone for V7? I am in Welly but if in AKL I will make contact for sure.

My engine expired when the crank bolt came loose. Took a year to get it back on the road...been running for a few months now so need to get MHD tune back on it. I installed catless downpipes and silicon turbo inlets while the engine was out...no brainer to do it then as the labour for both of those mods is nasty otherwise. With those two mods the car is going really well even on the standard tune (gave the inlets a homemade walnut blast while it was out too, which would have help breathing for sure). I really need to go to stage 2 mhd now in order to get the check engine light tuned off due to the catless. But before that i want to install my charge pipe. I was having heaps of traction issues until I swapped for Pilot Sport 4's. So far so good, will have to see what happens when i move onto stage 2. I was quoted about $900+gst just for labour for the downpipe installation and that's for a N55. So i'll be giving it a go myself. Have heard the n54 can be a bit trickier

Benji335i 21 Report post Posted April 8, 2018 Oh actually I run it linear I like it due to being auto, the throttle response is better
kmx 1 Report post Posted April 8, 2018 I’ve been running stage 2+ for about 6 months and loving it. Ive also got this stacked with xhp stage 3 transmission flash and that’s great too Ive got 335 n54 with vrsf inlets, catless downpipes, chargepipe and 7” intercooler. im thinking about a custom tune so keen to hear how much better and who does this in NZ. My turbos have quite a bit of rattle so will start looking at options at some stage. For now they hold boost fine with no codes Be great to see some of your guys cars with your setups etc.

You have all the VRSF stuff I have too, good choice, I got the BMW P exhaust too bro! With a custom tune for FBO! No where here does MHD custom tunes so I get mine from the states! I am DCT too, with the latest software flash as well. where are you based? Currebtly mine doesn’t have rattle and smoke fingers crossed. When I do I’ll go stage 1. How come it took a year to get back on the road? FBO makes these cars fly! Get a custom tune buddy It took so long for a few reasons...I started down the path of rebuilding as it was just one bent valve, but made a couple of noob mistakes and eventually figured it was probably going to cost less and be safer to put in a used engine in. So I bought one, replaced all the typical leak prone gaskets, seals and one time use bolts etc, cleaned the inlet ports and valves, replaced the turbos, replaced the gearbox, installed the catless DPs and silicon inlets before fitting it all back in in one piece, gearbox and all. Did all the work myself and took my time doing it and it still cost a fortune! It wasn't a big pressing priority as we were also doing home renovations and i had other cars to drive. Plenty of parts and tools came from the US and all the research took plenty of time too. A satisfying achievement but I don't think I would bother again. Been working through a few little teething issues (not engine related) but now I'm comfortable it's all good and I can throw a tune at it again.
