carshark 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 Hi Guys (and girls) Ive got a 1996 E36 320i and its a jap import. Ive just bought it and Ive noticed that it holds first gear way to long. It seems to do it everything from a stand still. It holds and holds then thumps into 2nd gear. If I'm very light on the accelerator the thump is a little better. But if I drive it normally or give it some good power it really bangs into the next gear. The guy I got the car off told me it was doing it and said it was a common fault. But its really starting to piss me off so Id like to get it sorted. So please, if there is a fix Id love to know. Any help much appreciated
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 JATCO Jerk is a common fault. Either repair the auto or convert to manual

KwS 2425 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 yeah my old Jap import E36 has the Jatco jerk when i purchased it. Eventually it got so bad that the trans started slipping in all gears and the jerk got longer and harsher. I converted to manual. This was with less than 80,000km on the clock.
