BMW Paint and interior protection, worth it?

Recommended Posts

G'day everyone,

A new BMW is being added to the family, a 2012 F30 328i. The dealer has also offered BMW Paint and Upholstery protection for $1000 with lifetime warranty. Is it snake oil or actually worth it? And will it help with the resale value in 3-4 years time?

Regards,

Don't waste your money. It is a well known fact that the value is less than 250 bucks so it is in the dealer's interest to flog it and keep the change. It adds nothing to resale value - I have an absolutely immaculate 2012 535i with 6000km on it that would have been over 150k new and if someone offerred me 60 for it, I would take it. The moral of the story, it's value will drop through the floor with or without snakeoil on it. Maybe you are interested in an F10 5-series instead?

$1k is enough to do a half decent valet/cleaning 3 times. It will go even further if you have a bit of know how and DIY.

I wouldn't bother if I were you, which is exactly what I did when I bought my car at dealers. :)

Yeah that is expensive for the product. we charge (nissan dealership) $595 for paint and fabric add another $100 if its leather. the interior treatment is good if you have children etc as it makes spills alot easier to clean up and resists staining,

but exterior paint protection i feel is a sham as you have to use their car wash and only wash in certain conditions and follow their instructions to the word or they wont cover. your better off giving your car a good polish every few months to keep the paint in top condition

Cheers for the replies everyone. Looks like I will be waxing it myself from time to time.

Andrew, your f10 535i is out of the budget but would love to have two 535i in the garage.

For that kind of money you can get one of those ceramic coatings like CQuartz or Opticoat. A place called OCDetailng does that, maybe others.

OCD (detailing specialists) these guys do all these coatings inside and out. They specialize in it and know what they're doing. Also insured and used to dealing with people whom are as fanatical about getting it right as they area. Give Sam or Christian a call. http://www.ocdetailing.co.nz/
