drewandkelz 3 Report post Posted June 12, 2016 Hi. I,ve just become a BMW owner after many years of wanting one. I now have a 320i and a 740i M Sport. In the 740 I can't turn the radio on once I'm driving. I have to turn it on before starting the engine then it's fine. Is this normal, is it a setting that I can change. Breaker 980 Report post Posted June 12, 2016 Hi there, I'm pretty sure Kulgan had the same issue in his E38 (assuming it's an E38) as well. Suggest you check out his thread or PM on it. Nice cars, post up some pics

drewandkelz 3 Report post Posted June 12, 2016 One more thing. I have the 16:9 screen and it's a 2001 car. DSP doesn't come up on the menu. Is it possible it doesn't have DSP or is it only active when playing a cd. I was under the impression all cars that age had DSP. str8_6 275 Report post Posted June 12, 2016 I used to have random radio issues like this in the e39. Replaced the original BMW battery and all issues went away. I currently have a similar issue with the e53 which shares the same hardware as e39 etc. Radio won't come on if it's been switched off while the engine is running. Only comes back on after switching ignition off and back on to accessory. Checked to see what the battery condition was like and previous owner has the wrong battery installed. Next on the to do list. I just turn the radio down rather than off.
