Early e36 325i with zf manual transmission information

Recommended Posts

Hi team

Any information on these? I picked up a 12/1990 e36 325i manual (didn't know they made them that early) thinking it would be the getrag 250 but it is a zf. Are they stronger/same as the 250 getrag?

Cheers,

Niroy

I asked that question the other week and was told in the case of the 5 speed the ZF is stronger and more desirable.

Put the last 7 digits of your vin in to an online bmw parts catalog and you can check which zf box you have. Car is definitely a factory manual? Or could've had the zf box and associated running gear for it installed.

Factory manual according to the VIN. Attached is the gearbox option on realoem. ZF factory fitted.

I seem to recall the 328i manual box looking bigger than this one however. I wonder why the early e36 had this box? Might have borrowed it from an E34 manual as they started producing them earlier?

zf box is much better than the getrag.

You did well.
