Temperature Worries

Recommended Posts

have recently had the thermostat replaced on the car, due to the mech not finding any apparent damage to radiator or gaskets through the pressure tests etc...

apprently the fan is not operating as it should at 3/4 temp, perhaps due to a switch that has broken.

One dumb thing I did last week was to unscrew the radiator cap, when it was in the red zone. Pschh! scalped my right forarm of a couple of layers of summer tanned skin while it gysered out hot coolant freaking everywhere - then a bus pulled in beside me, by this stage I am soaking wet and stinging...dont worry, I got a hose and doused everything.

So, back to the action:

My coolant mix is low at the moment, 10/90 mix (should be 50:50 I guess), that may be contributing to the temp volatility, but if any one has any tips or ideas that'd be much appreciated.

The cooling system may not have been bled properly leaving air in the system.

You may have a dodgy water pump, plastic impellers fall to bits, pretty cheap to replace if you are a DIY'er.

yeah, sounds to me like the system may not have been bled properly. As long as everything else is in shape ie waterpump, and clean radiator, then thats where I would look. Its not a hard job to bled em, but you would be better advised I think by an E36 owner as the procedure may be different than the E30. In anycase, change your coolant to a 50:50 mix and get that fan sorted quick smart as well. It isnt good for the engine to be re run as hot as you have had it and I wouldnt let it get that hot again.

When you get the coolant, don't get those normal green stuff. Heard that the Merc's OEM ones are good (if not better) than BMW's OEM coolant. (both are blue)

Check the viscous coupling on the fan. Get a new radiator - is the coolant leaking anywhere? like from waterpump.

Check the headgasket - maybe a TK test (might not work so well these days)

Yeah life's tough on my minimum wage job.

The fact of the matter here is that if you ask a question in a well thought out manner and use proper English, then you will get reasonable help.

If you are here with the express purpose of showing off how awesome you are at using txt language, then yes, I will take the piss out of you and question your level of intelligence.

If you are easily offended and want to have a good cry, then you can always get around it by asking your quesyion using proper English.

Good luck in your obviously prosperous, high paying, job, may your wealth continue.

Cheers

Grant

thanks for tht, but my boyfrend has seemed to of fixed it after hes had a proper look, and not really any help from you all. Needless to say wa1tnc was not very impressed with the help you were all so willing to give me and has said from now on he will ask himself, because you seem more willing to help out males. to those of you that did offer advice thanks so much.

turns out, some of the sensors that are in there wernt connetcd im guessing due to mechanics that ripped me $1000 off before not reconnecting them, all mi aircon stuff is now out, so more air gets in, and wa1tnc did sumthink else also but im not sure what at this stage, all he sed was "it doesnt go past half any more" so im really happy!

once again, cheers to the few that offered advice through PM's and the few that posted up in here with reasonable non ass'hole answers.

as for the dude tht called me a hooker, cheers for that! im sure that if u knew me, ud never of sed that, if youd known my past, and how hard ive worked to get over things that have happened in it, ud never of even said that. COMPLETELY DISSAPOINTED!

There are a fair few jobs that pays $150 an hour. It doesn't necessary be a hooker.

Law firm that I work for, the partners charges $250 an hour to meet clients. I know medical specialists (especially anything nuero-related) charges AT LEAST for $500 an hour to give diagnosis. Private jet pilots earns a few grands per trip.

You need to broaden your view girl!

And seriously, I am sure it's not that hard to type proper English on a forum. Please leave your TXT language for your phone and your phone ONLY.
