330itis 15 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Hi guys Is it prety much a straight swap from a 1.9ldohc motor to a 2.8motor in an e36? I mean like are the engine mounts the same? is there enough room to fit it? wat work is needed coz all E36 bodies are the same ae.
Jazzbass 1 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Well, I thought so too, but my 325 had less room inside than my 318, which made me wonder if there was indeed some small differences?
Guest Andrew Report post Posted February 20, 2006 i don't imagine its anywhere close to a straight swap - you would probably want a whole wrecked e36 328 for bits.
E30stz 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 I think hes looking at getting that pwned 328 off trademe. But like still a huge task if your doing it yourself and if your not probably $5k+ work from a mechanic.
isis 16 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 way too much work..unless you're planning on doing it yourself, you'd better of selling your 4 potter n buy the bix 6!
330itis 15 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 HAHAHA!! yeh thanks i am looking at buying that 28 of trade me but i think he wants too much and if you say it is that much work.... i dno ae.. coz my 1.9l beast is shot to sh*t so i thout for a bit more than a price of a replacement motor i could conv it. I shouldnt have too much trouble with it though coz im somewhat a mechanic myself and dad is a mechanic with too many years experience. hehe we got a setup workshop and sh*t so no hassles there. but i dont have a clue abot elcs... especialy all this ecu and computer and digital dash sh*t. but i was wundering if the 6cyl has a longer engine bay like the coupes? its all the same body and chassis so if i gut this one out i can just transplant everything ae? westy 614 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 Honestly, sell it and buy a 328. The chassis might be the same size but nothing else is.
my_e36 43 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 I think the 6-cyc has different suspension to cope with the added weight and power. Probably easier to sell the car and get a 328.
330itis 15 Report post Posted February 26, 2006 I cant afford a complete new 328 thats why i was gona swap everything from this wrecked 328 and put it in my IS The whole thing would have cost me $7600 and I could have had a 1996 MANUAL 328 M-tech dress up with leather interior and 99K How much would I have to pay for something like that 16 17K? more? but the cares gone now so im just looking for a m44 now
