E28 In-tank fuel pump

Recommended Posts

Despite having a decent amount of spares, a good E28 in-tank fuel pump is not something I have. (I do have an E34 one, that *should* work)

So I'm looking to upgrade to an OEM+ type solution as that appears to be cheaper than a standard OEM pump.

Thoughts on this?

Or any other suggestions?

535i use a low pressure high volume in tank pump with the main high pressure one under the car

I have used options in both of those if needed  , also new options info , as just replaced both of mine last week

@BM WORLD I'd prefer to go new. What setup did you go with?

I know they can run ok most of the time with a dead tank pump, but I'm still going to want to rev over 5k on a 1/4 tank haha

Not too keen on a pump that's not Ethanol rated (in case I have to run Gull, unless it means E85 or something).

Since I need to replace all the fuel hoses as well.

How about replacing two pumps for one? I found a good write up/ discussion which suggests a TRE-340 in-tank pump is the best solution. http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=101410&start=100

should add that they do not recommend the Walbro pumps.

For anyone else that comes across this, its worth noting that NOT ALL E28's even have the intank fuel pump. My 525i M30 does not. Ive gone off and ordered a nice Aeromotive unit to replace/upgrade (and remove external) something that isnt even there or wired to be there. :(

Lol, I did that afterwards (and are hardly conclusive anyhow!), usually I do it first but I assumed from everything I read as it was from the position of "e28's use intank + external" pumps!

I'll look into putting a fuel wiring bulkhead seal in and running my own wires. Given I want to increase the power, its going to have to get a performance intank upgrade at some point regardless.
