robertw 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2017 I have a 1990 325I with the Airbag circuit board in the steering wheel which has fried it's self, Any one know how to fix it or have a second hand steering wheel with a working Airbag there is nothing else wrong with the car would hate to have to sell it for parts, Robert. Gabe79 410 Report post Posted October 12, 2017 (edited) It’ll certainly be cheaper to get a new steering wheel, but worse case and you really like the car... you can decommission the airbag and get a lvvt cert for it. Most places that do electronics repairs will probably be able to at least diagnose it, if not fix any blown components. Yes that's the one do you know if the control module is still ok? I have been to the local Auto electrician he located a steering wheel when it arrived it is the wrong one, have been thinking about getting the car certified to operate with out an Airbag has anyone done this and how much hassle is it? aja540i 1906 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 (edited) I took my original wheel out and use a non airbag msport wheel, not an issue at wof time because it doesnt have an airbag light anymore, I got this wheel as a spare but have never tested it. I might have the original control board from the one that stopped working if you know someone that can fix it. I have been looking for a few weeks and can only find them off shore at silly prices, I would be interested in yours if it is working ok, Cheers Robert. If your local person doesn't know, call around. There is a whole list of them on the page. I've seen the link, but don't have it now. If you can't find it, I'll look for you later. aja540i 1906 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 I didnt bother with certifying as the airbag was optional in these cars and removing the steering wheel removes the entire system. The rules mainly relate to removing labelling so that no one thinks they have airbags when the system has been deactivated. I have had mine out for several years and never had an issue with WOFs. Have researched this for jobs at work. After a certain age (15 yrs comes to mind but not sure) the system can be removed but ALL related components must be removed, airbag signage removed & a sign on the dash indicating the system is no longer installed - that is the ugly part.
