Gaz 1060 Report post Posted June 12, 2018 So I have just picked up an automatic 2500 E3 and a manual e12 525 and want to know if the e12 can be used to convert the E3 to manual. Anyone know much about these? I've tried Google but found the answers to be quiet confusing
allan 295 Report post Posted June 12, 2018 Don't have a clue but found this have a look https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/schaltgetriebe/bmw-2500-3-3-li-e3.html. Is the e12 box a 4 or five speed as bmw fans mentions both plus a 5 speed Zf box and one with an overdrive unit. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=6012-EUR-01-1976-E3-BMW-2500&diagId=23_0795 http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E12/Europe/525-M30/feb1977/browse/manual_transmission/ Appears thery may have the same motor M30. Gaz 1060 Report post Posted June 12, 2018 I had a quick look at realoem last night and would appear the 4 speed would work. I found on a forum that some 5 speed would work but that is where i get lost haha
allan 295 Report post Posted June 12, 2018 All good then not sure with some of the motor /box mate ups is their a problem some angle off set which throws the gear selector out of wack?. BMW fans had the 4 speed as 262/9.20 CD best of luck with it all.
Gaz 1060 Report post Posted June 12, 2018 I'm fairly certain gearbox will be ok but will need a pedal box from an e3
eliongater 718 Report post Posted June 17, 2018 As they’re both m30s the gearbox should bolt up to the engine fine. However you might need to check for a speedo drive on the gearbox (should be fine since it’s an e12 box). Unfortunately that’s as far as my knowledge goes on e3s.
