BMW e46 Limp mode

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Sooo.. I'm having an issue where i've noticed my BMW e46 "2001" 330I going into limp mode. It happened twice, both times where i was slowing down suddenly.

The first time it happened, i pulled over and switched it off then started it back up and that fixed the problem.. it ran fine and everything but it happened again while coming to an abrupt stop and the "switching the car off and waiting for a couple seconds" method didn't work. My transmission shifts fine, never had any issues, no delay nothing. My car's fuel consumption has been terrible since that happened, it was a bit over quarter tank ..while being parked and just by starting every now and again.. it's dropped dramatically to almost empty. there are no engine lights, just the DSC light which been on a long time before the Transmission error light ..my brakes fluid dropped dramatically also about 2 months ago where it's gotten spongy but still stops the car ..i just need to press a lil lower ..we filled the brake fluid to the max line ..and closely observed it for any drop but there were none to this day.. idk what happened ..but i'm still in limp mode... i've ordered a scan tool as to pin point what exactly is happen ..car only ran 96000 K.. any advise?

Sounds like it has multiply issues so you'd have to scan it first to see where you are at. Its likely has the original transmission fluid and filter can cause issues and accelerate wear on known weak points such as the torque converter. Brakes could be many things like an ABS\DSC unit failure, sensors, master cylinder or leaks\air in the system.

low fluid level will cause it to go into limp mode

will show up under hard braking or cornering
