Matth5 471 Report post Posted December 21, 2019 So I'm getting an engine shipped from Auckland to Christchurch to replace the one I destroyed on Raupuna... I'd like the rod bearings replaced and oil sump baffling installed. Probably something like what this guy did:https://bmw.spoolstreet.com/threads/addressing-n5x-oiling-and-spun-rod-bearings-accusump-installed.4034/ If other reliability modification like a secondary oil pump can be done at a reasonable cost I'm up for that too. I just want to be able to take this on track without worrying about blowing another engine because it's f**king expensive ? Any recommendations on who can do this?
Gaz 1061 Report post Posted December 22, 2019 Could try DCH motorsport. Probably the only ones I know that would have experience in this area in Chch
Matth5 471 Report post Posted January 2, 2020 Have discussed it with them, DCH will be handling it, thanks
Matth5 471 Report post Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) It has been a very long complicated road, but she's back, with a rebuilt engine: Drove it to work, was nice to hear that exhaust note again, wish the M4 sounded like that! Will probably put her up for sale soon... doesn't make sense to keep this and the M4. Anyone want a stuffed N55? The guys did pull it open, said it certainly looked like the bearings were not getting oil as they were destroyed, some of them apparently had even split apart. . Potentially the cylinder head is worth something to somebody: If anyone wants to buy it let me know, otherwise it'll go to the scrap pile Edited October 14, 2020 by Matth5

Matth5 471 Report post Posted October 18, 2020 (edited) Been driving it to work, and took it for a good test run through the hills last night. The exhaust note is so much better than the M4, damn I will miss that. Especially the crackles and pops ? Drives as beautifully as I remember, the new engine seems to be running perfectly. Little easier around town and parking than the M4 due to its size. She does need a good clean on the inside though...
