Gaz 1060 Report post Posted January 28, 2020 Now that some of the cars from the timaru hail storm are popping up for sale thinking about getting one as a daily run about for cheap. However a large number are de-registered. What's the story with getting the re-registered? Do you have to repair all the damage before it can be registered? BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted January 28, 2020 engineer reports on all repairs , some may need new roof skins , watch for broken glass(sunroof , rear screen etc) as might have had water in then classed as water damage etc
NZ00Z3 187 Report post Posted January 28, 2020 We lost a late model, low milage car in that hail storm. Damage to the A Pillar and other structural areas. Looked at buying it back. Couldn't get a WOF until structural report from panel beater or manufacture was produced for damage or repair. Couldn't just fill the dents and repaint myself. Became just too hard and expensive to do. They would make great parts cars. Brent is correct about the hail damaged cars with broken windows being treated as water damaged cars. NZTA started to ease back on WOF's (hail damage) so that people could keep the cars on the road while everything is being sorted out with the insurance companies. But for how long that continues is yet to play out.
Gaz 1060 Report post Posted January 28, 2020 Cheers, probably not worth it then. Shame as there are some nice cars there but the photos are terrible and can't see all the damage
