Door open warnings wrong sides

Please see my project thread for further context - 

I've noticed a few things in my interior seem back to front.

For example, if I open my drivers door, the dash shows the passenger side as open and vise-versa.

I'm wondering if this might be related to my park lights, which don't work when the stalk is pushed forward, but do when it's pulled back.

I had the same thing but NOT on a BMW - a VW MK6 Golf GTI, had the wrong body control module, as a result it interpreted drivers side as the left not right. Thought I'd mention it.
