E90 n43 timing chain.

Recommended Posts

I am looking at an Tidy LCI MS E90 with an n43 that has timing chain issues. Seller acknowledges the cost to repair will be high and has a timing chain kit already to go into it. It appears that he has lost interest or ran out of cash so is selling as is where is? What would you pay for it? What will it cost to repair? I am assuming that once replaced the engine should be reliable for another 100k kms? Also are the repair kits any better than the OEM?

No.

They have valvetronic / CCV issues as well. Just avoid unless you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. There is a reason there are so many 'my E90 320i is broken' threads on here.

The N43 does not have valvetronic, so one less system to fail, that's a positive

Yeah the N43 is the 'reliable' version if such a thing exists. One i sold had 273,XXXkm on it with the original chain - NZ new manual, lived on the open road and fairly well serviced, opposite of most N4X engines.

But yeah i dont see the point. If you do the chain then you have to all the coolant fittings, hoses, pcv, seals. List keeps going and bill goes up and they arent worth anything.
