m325i 709 Report post Posted Monday at 01:59 AM Work car going away, need new family SUV. Interested in you guy's expert opinions... Have an f80 M3, so don't need anything crazy. Will be partner's car + family car, so comfort is higher priority than 0-100 time. Coming out of a brand new Ford Escape - which was disliked after previous BMW F25 x3 30d. 10,000km a year max and would rather pay more for a newer car/ CPO and have lower running costs, especially as I can sell it in 3-5 years at relatively low km. Tesla Model Y + very low running cost, +decent value at a couple of years old with low kms +factory warranty, -taxi/uber status - so common Macan (2.0lt) +looks, +badge, -small motor budget, -may be hard to warranty? -expensive repairs/parts GLC46 +looks +good size +priced quite well -infotainment is weak -warranty may be hard - expensive service/parts X3 petrol (40i) +familiar/proven good cars, +sporty/comfortable combo, + good tech, -standard expensive service/repairs X3 hybrid? don't know much, worst of both worlds? X3 electric - better to just get the Tesla? Toureg - bigger car, but they do look quite cool. - I assume all the normal VW issues.... What else? (has to be euro)
balancerider 764 Report post Posted Monday at 06:09 AM Model y is cheap to run, moderate depreciation, crap looks. Tesla interior is polarising. Not really an SUV in the traditional sense. Macan with the EA888 vw GTI engine won’t feel like a ‘real’ Porsche, underwhelming performance and expensive to run. Gotta get at least the 3.0 v6 from the S4 IMO Mercedes biturbo v6 sounds good, performance less impressive than the stats would have you believe. Thirsty. Interior looks like a gentleman’s club. X3 m40i is great engine, pretty reliable, not that thirsty, sounds good. BMW servicing will be expensive regardless of what engine size (although value service if >5 years old, $400 for an oil change doesn’t seem awful in the current environment) m40d is probably worth test driving as long as trips aren’t too short. The 30i won’t be any more fuel efficient than the 40i. Wouldn’t get the plug in hybrid. Ix3 full electric gets good reviews and heavy depreciation on 1-2 year old so could be pretty cheap motoring. Touareg is probably not that bad reliability wise - 3L diesel V6 has had most of the issues ironed out now,
m325i 709 Report post Posted Monday at 08:17 PM (edited) Thanks for that. Realising that it will be short trips and low kms maybe only 7-8km. What are the 20d X3s like? Ok? Problem for a diesel? also now looking at the Merc GLC300 - could be a sweet spot (it’s a shame the EQC400 range seems so poor - they look great, in black) bloody nightmare shopping for a practical car when performance isn’t a deal making factor! oh and yes the iX3 does look like a good option. Will look into them Edited Monday at 08:18 PM by m325i
Palazzo 478 Report post Posted Monday at 09:44 PM What about this? From memory it’s nearly as big as the original x5? https://www.autocar.co.nz/2023-bmw-ix1-xdrive30-review/
