Hi All,

I'm working on an N52 swap for my E30.  It seemed like a good idea when the headgasket blew in the M20.

Is there anyone with a stock E30 in the Rotorua area that wouldn't mind if I took a few measurements?  There are a few things that I wish I'd worked out before I sold the original engine.

has anyone in NZ completed and certed N52 swap?  You might find you're a trailblazer here...  top marks! 👍

DM me if you want. I live in Rotorua and have an E30. Keen to see what you've done with the conversion as well.

I don’t know of any others, I’d be very keen to hear from anyone else trying though. It’s not a perfectly straightforward swap, especially in the right hand drive chassis.

I’m looking to work out the exact orientation of the engine in the chassis. The diff input and centre support bearing are off centre and I’m not sure if the crank is also off centre or if something is angled to allow for this. I’ve experimented a bit but it’s doing my head in.

This is a cool swap, n52s go great especially the b30s. Have you seen the velocity stacks people are running in the states? Could be quite cool. They’re running them entirely off of valvetronic with no intake manifold or throttle body just velocity stacks straight off the side of the head, probably terrible for IATs but looks and sounds really good

I’ve been following that build on r3v. He’s done an excellent job and there are a few others who have pioneered the swap on there too.
I might look down the path of trumpets later, for now I’ll use the n54 manifold for simplicity. The big argument against them (aside from the IATs, as you mentioned) is reliability, so I think a simple slide valve could be made that would mainly run wide open and use the variable lift intake for air metering, but could be used if that system failed. Plenty to experiment with but I need to get it running first.
Hoping I can make the sump baffles today and finish the pickup so I can get the engine oil tight.
