E28E30 336 Report post Posted July 20 (edited) Hello experts, I have recently acquired a 1987 E30, NZ new with factory basic stereo, but the battery was disconnected by the previous owner so now I can’t use the stereo without entering the code. Local BMW dealer in Wellington said unit should have serial number stamped into unit in metal, but it doesn’t that I can see? There is this serial number on a sticker also saying Alpine NZ, on the back of the unit. I sent that to local BMW but no help as they said it must be the one stamped in metal on the unit itself. Should I try a different dealer or some other source to find code or is this likely a dead end? Have searched the owner’s manual, the toolkit and the unit all over. There is a blank sticker on top of the unit which may have had a code written on it some stage but that’s long gone (I believe Shelly BMW used to write the code on the unit? They supplied this car new way back when). Thanks for any help! Alternatively if someone has one of these lying around and has the code, and wants to move it on, please PM me Edited July 20 by E28E30 Updated text
Neal 576 Report post Posted July 21 There are phone apps that will work out the code based on units serial number or online service that will do the same. eg https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=4797224868258853173&hl=en_NZ

Olaf 3426 Report post Posted July 29 have you carefully looked through every page of every document you got with the car? Sometimes you'll find it quietly handrwritten somewhere in ballpoint, just four digits, nothing like "STEREO CODE" or "PIN"... just four digits. Tidy looking example, nice work. I have indeed. But you’ve inspired me to have another look when I am over in Masterton where it is, this weekend.
