isis 16 Report post Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) 5.25 all around do you sit at the back while you drive or do u like your passengers to have better sound? screw the back speakers and get some decent splits/components in the front. its all about front stage now mate.. Just ply the speaker grill off from the parcel shelf and have a look. That said though, rear speaker should be the last thing on any upgrade if at all. Get some decent front and maybe also an amp & sub depending on your budget and requirements.

bimbam 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2006 Your in luck - i have recently had my sound system done and it blows the nuts of ya! Spent the weekend with a friend of my who is professional installer doing all of mine and its pretty straight forward. Heres what i did just for some ideas 2x 5.25 JBL 86w components in the front plus two teaters mounted on the door ( bout 260 at paralel import) Panasonic mp3 head deck which powers just the front components and tweaters. In the rear and this is where it gets slightly tricky. Took out the standard boxes and sanded and grinded them back to fit new 5.75 JBL component speakers and the new tweaters, re-mounted them with orignal covers etc and then ran them to the 2000w fushion amp mounted in the boot along with the 800w sub. And thats about it - will not distort till about 39 on the headdeck and by which point you pretty much dont wanna be sitting in the car. Just remember , if you want to hear any good sound put down one of the seats to allow the sound to travel through the car - if you have the seats up in a coupe you can pretty much deaden 80% of good sound. If you have any other questions fire away.

MADBMA 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2006 does the 6' speakers fit at the back as well?? wats the biggest size speaker that can fit on the factory setup at the back?? yup i definetly got the 6 inch speakers to fit in the back, didnt have to modify anything, they had 5.25s in there originaly and after taking them out and putting them next to the 6 inch speakers didnt think they would fit, but i tried anyway and they just bolted up nice and easyily. bimbam 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2006 did you use original speaker boxes though not just the parcel shelf - 6's fit easy into the shelf but if you want to use the boxes you have to modify them as they arent built to hold them , and of course you get better sound when they are boxed rather than just going straight into the boot space

Boston Accoutics make nice componets for the front speakers. I have one of their subs in the boot as well. Some of the front speakers are rated at 3 ohms so you'll make a few more RMS's out of most amps. They need plenty of clean power to sound best. http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/car_pro...;product_id=297 http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/car_pro...p;product_id=68 If your not worried about the sounds for the rear passengers then what about some jl stealth subs. They mount up to the rear deck speaker cutouts. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealth...il.php?fit_id=

Try http://www.caraudioproducts.co.nz/jlaudio.html for JL in NZ, the stealths were about $1000 , but that was when the NZ dollar was low against USD.
