Anyone familiar with Northland Prestige mechs? Will be going in for the first service soon and wondering if they will be ok. Glenn now runs Northland Prestige Service centre (used to be with Team McMillan - and by far one of the best service advisors there). He's a very good personal friend of mine (we practically grew up together and lived around the corner from each other when we were young) and a top bloke and very knowledgeable when it comes to BMWs - he spent a good near 3 years in the UK with a top BMW service centre and prior to that a very qualified autoelectrician and mechanic in New Zealand (started in Ford and then moved onto quite a few other brands). And i bet the guy who did it knew he had done, you couldn't miss it. Take the 540 there for everything and they always do a top notch job, they do have a habit of finding a problem and fixing it before you know even if its going to cost a lot. Why didn't they re-programme the radio for BOP stations while they were at it? Is it a BMW Corporate policy or do dealers just take it upon themselves to do it. 318isCoupe 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2007 Number plate surrounds are easy to remove. I'd definately want to keep a positive relationship, especially with your local dealer. Coombes Johnston has always been great to me, better than other mechanics who've done things like disconnect my alternator, burn out fuses and forget to re-attach bits of trim, indicators etc. For some reason last time my car was serviced my mechanic decided to take my kidney grills out and they're still not sitting right. And you appear to be comparing an average service provider with a dreadful service provider. This doesn't make either one satisfactory. I always buy my parts from BMW and will continue to do so. You are incorrect in saying that "I" need a good relationship with them. For a business to suceed, they need to generate a good relationship that is mutually beneficial. That's up to the company, If they believe there is a benefit in you having their number plate surrounds.. and not just free advertising for them. Then it's ok.. But in this case it doesn't sound like there's any benefit to you.. unless your old numberplate surrounds were faded and worn (Personally, I prefer just having the number plate without a surround) If it's a company policy or the norm to change peoples number plate surrounds without their consent.. which it quite possibly is, Then maybe you should ask them why that is. Maybe try and convince them to give you cheaper services in exchange for the advertisement space on your car? Nobody gets to advertise anything for free on any of my cars. The first thing I do with any new car is remove all free advertising. If they want to advertise they can pay for it. Good racer. Builds wicked cars. If you dont mind travelling to feilding then I can highly recommend Graeme at HG services. Good mate of mine and has worked on my car for years.
