Think you'll be hard pressed to find a warranty that will provide enough cover on a 14 year old car to replace an S62 if you throw a rod bearing.

Is it just me or are the E60s getting better looking with age? Especially in Motorsport form.

Buy the best example you can. ie Estoril blue one. Comply drive & enjoy it. Once your bank balance recovers then look at more power. better than a cheap example that sits in your shed for years gathering dust as you work through a plethora of issues trying to locate the rare parts needed to get to how your want it.

But I bet you don't thrash it from cold with the wrong oil in it.

Don't think that will happen though... Have been running through all the possible computations with friends and family alike (i.e. should I import the Estoril one I like, should I import the cheap non-msport high kms manual E31 I've found, should I buy James' 850 and convert/twin turbo/supercharge, and so on...) but I keep coming back to the Estoril one. Unfortunately, it's right at the top end of my budget and I may even have to sell the supercharger to get it here (though I'm hoping not). Watch this space... (actually not this one because it's the wrong thread I've hijacked, though at least I was the OP).

Hopefully, Darren... But wouldn't it be nice with an S62 in it?!!

I was thinking more along the lines of what you can expect to pay for parts in New Zealand / What's available easily here versus what's not. Also, the American and UK forums often talk about products or parts brands that aren't easily available in New Zealand. We can list our equivalents and workarounds etc. I will admit I thought about this hurriedly yesterday and I'll work on how I think things should look over the weekend, might give everyone else a better idea about what I'm attempting to create.

Depending on what your ECU is. Hell open it up / de solder the rom chip(s) solder a new socket and burn you a new map that he has tested on his dyno that works with your cars setup. He may not need to do that as your ECU may support the mods that you want by simply uploading through the 16pin OBD port. Some ECUs support a BDM rig which can also be used to bypass the limitations of trying to upload to restricted program space through the OBD port. Simple answer is change fly-by-wire throttle maps, VANOS maps, fuel and ignition timing, intake temp maps among other things. All of this (and is more worth it the better the flow your engine has (exhaust, intake, maybe cams and head work) to make more usable power. tried to dumb that down as a response.. hopefully explains it a little.

Well for everyone on this forum's enjoyment. I'm on a refresh program to get the car upto scratch to get the best results from a custom tune. I'm thinking confirmation with before & after dyno runs to confirm everything. Dyno results speak for themselves.

i couldn't resist. But seriously, just give him a call. I can't remember what it was he did, but have chatted to him before, he is a friendly guy

more expecive though, because you will be paying the full price ($60US=$80NZ), and shipping from germany from NZ on top, so probably about $100-110 if you did it all by yourself.

yep, both great ideas. Subscribing is a good option. this thread only gets action when there is an order of course (well except for now...) so when you get the notification that there has been an update to the thread, come on line and take it from there. haha look, if i was selling them for $90 a pair and making a bit of money on the side, id be more than happy to put in the work to make a sale, like any other business person. but i don't make anything on these. I do it from the kindness of my heart LOL So if one more or one less buys, I'm really not bothered at all, so long as its close to break even if there are more than 10 people, then make a little profit which accumulates and pays for the shortfall on orders like the last one which didn't break even.

Yeah absolutely standard. I probably paid too much, the guy was a collector and wasnt giving it up for anything less than what I paid. You can get them in good nick from tidy organised people - they sell them for dirt cheap not knowing how much they actually go for. Just keep your ear to the floor on TradeMe.

For those who maybe interested the 34 turbo went for a cert last week as to be expected it failed on a few things mainly dew to the fact i pointed them out to the cert guy not that he wasn't doing his job far from it but i guess i wasn't 100% happy with it, unfortunately one minor thing turned into a 12hr fix but we choose to do these things. Changed the front brakes again as i wasn't happy with the rotor kick causing pad knock off have now fitted Merc disc's works much better have also landed the 6 speed boxes as the 260g really isnt liking the power it makes running 7psi nor do the 265 rears so box change is a must. Apart from that all going well ill be stalking the streets in a few weeks
