just over 7000 I have modified the tensioner by installing a smaller spring inside it and reducing the oil bleed off hole. I will look into what S54 one cost but I have been told what I have done will help. I will change the oil this weekend. I've been told its only a problem for cars that are being tracked and revved hard for a number of laps, I could be just asking to much form the factory valve train. We ran the car last Sunday over a 3.5km bent sprint with no problems Heres a video with my son driving. I found out a little more about the lifter problems . It looks like I need to change the oil to 10w 60 if I want rev it high for long periods , also the tensioner needs to be upgraded.

We ran the at Taupo on the weekend. The results were good but I have a lifter problem. After only a few laps at high revs the lifters start to collapse. The oil pressure doesnt drop and the oil temp isnt high. once back in the pits if you leave it idling they all good quiet in less than a minute. I removed the oil filter to see if the m42 oil was restricting the oil flow, it made no difference. Its has magnatec 15/40 in it. Anyone with any ideas Does the m54b22 have poor oil flow to the head? Maybe a thicker oil?

I just hooked up the red pipe straight onto the rocker cover breather, and blocked off the extra pipe in the dip stick tube. so far the catch can is still empty.

Are taking about the breather?

Since that new engine got install I noticed the rear end walks around a little so I decided to replace the trailing arm bushes. I made up a dyi puller so I could remove the bushes without removing the arms from car. It worked good, less than hour to replace both rear arm bushes Homemade bush puller ready to go Success the bush is removed

Just finshed the first tank of gas since the install, all is well. I still need to install a isc but other than that its all running ok

Hahaha the e word Yes there gains for sequential vs batch but in this case not worth the extra cost. We run a sequential setup in our gtr and that allows us to increase the fuel for clyinders 5 & 6 due to the design of the factory manifold favouring these clyinders. We are going to taupo next weekend I'll get vid of it

By the way I ran the 520i up on the dyno before I removed the engine and it made 125hp at the wheels. It was completey stock at that time. So to get to a little over 160hp atw the mods I have made are Changed inlet to s50 itbs M50 exhaust link atom ecu Manual gearbox (was already in the car) Gull force 10 Which adds up to about a 30% gain in power which was more than I expected.

Multipoint grouped and wasted spark using the factory coils I'm not looking for Max fuel economy , individual fuel trims or anything like that as this is just a low budget way of getting more flexible tuning over the factory ecu.

$2000 will get you a after market ecu that can place the cam timing were exactly where you want it. From what I have read and people I have spoken to is the exhaust is more for emissions. People have spent hours chasing exhaust cam Timing to only gain 5hp in the mid range To help us get around the oil temp effecting the pwm the ecu only starts controlling the cam after 40deg.

For anyone interested this how we setup the Atom to control the inlet cam

I'm using a Link Atom. They are around $1000 mark. Its only controlling the inlet cam by changing the duty cycle based on engine temp,rpm and tps

Its tuned.

Tuning cut short. Got the basic tune tune sorted ie the drive ability but once I started to do some wot runs I started to get different afr on back to back runs. I need to check the pressure but I starting drink instead.

Does anyone know how much oil these engines take. Ive put in 5.5 litres and its still low.
