  1. Was it a BMW scan tool (GT1) ??? because some of the aftermarket scanners wont pick up camshaft & crankshaft sensor faults. The other thing too... did the guy have a brain and check live data as well ??
  2. Would like to see the exhaust manifold. Interesting that you are mounting the turbo on the starter, inlet manifold side of the engine. I've not seen that done before. There must be a reason for this ??
  3. Every ECU is intergrated by Canbus & software ABS SRS LKM ASC DME EGS etc etc .... you will not get anything to work. It would be cheaper to keep the car you've got and go buy the car you want. After 1998 most cars can not have engine swaps for road use with out spending more than what the two cars would cost to buy.
  4. The quick answer to this question is "NO YOU CAN"T"
  5. This is worse.... a blind mans eye candy
  6. Hazard lights are not a WOF requirement. Indicators are though
  7. Yes and so do crankshaft position sensors...... but he said it wouldnt crank over as well
  8. Sounds very much like a battery/power supply problem. You would need to get this checked professionally. If the power supply drops below 10 volts the engine can stop, as the ECU's in the vehicle need a minumum of 10 volts to operate. You could also have an ignition switch issue. Fault codes / live data should identify any issues. Get someone in your area with a brain to check it for you. I'm sure someone on here could lead you in the right direction as far as a reputable repairer in your area.
  9. All I can say Riley, is.........you are a very lucky man.... nice car....nice wheels.... nice drive......nice .....very nice
  10. Would pay to drain and flush out both. Sedement builds up in the block

  14. Was interesting a couple of weeks ago on Top Gear A hybrid Toyota Prius being followed by the latest M3 V8 at the same speed on the track. The prius did 18 mpg The M3 did 19 mpg..... go figure that one
  15. Feel free to give me a call....or call in
  16. Dont get me wrong...they are fine cars to drive & economical Maintenance is just higher on the high mileage cars or cars over 5-6 yrs of age. Higher on the imports too unfortunately Personaly I'd go for an E46 M43 engine for economy or 328 Ci/ 330Ci if I didnt give a sh*t. Driven correctly the larger 6's give good fuel economy and youve got the grunt when you do need it. Ask other members
  17. Another example. Replace the crankshaft position sensor E46 6 cylinder = 1 Hr labour E 46 Valvetronic = 4-5 hrs. You need to remove the plastic inlet manifold and keep your fingers crossed that nothing else breaks. Have a close look at one. They are not easy to work on...everything takes time. A bit like cheese Its all about recycled plastic and its all crap...only lasts for 5 or 6 years if you are lucky
  18. Yes I am serious Rocker cover oil leaks= new rocker cover Vacuum pumps for brakes= oil leaks Water pumps Rear cylinder water housings Power steering pumps Sump gaskets Thermostat housings We just did one 2002 done 80km ( Import ) They are very good for business Personaly I dont like the Valvetronic motors, however they do keep us busy
  19. I wouldn't...... to many issues with oil & water leaks and much harder to do than the 6 cylinder... which incurs more costs for the owners.
  20. Welcome to the forum I might like to also add, that , don't buy a vehicle without a pre purchase inspection. By the dealer or an independent BMW repairer who works on these vehicles. Do not get a check from anyone else ( no names ). We see too many HORROR stories because of unproffesional or inaccurate inspections. Cheers Glenn
  21. When we did the cambelt earlier this year I'm pretty sure we replaced all the drive belts. They probably all need readjusting now. If your up in Aucks, just call in and we'll adjust them for you.
  22. Its approx $500. The gasket (gen) is $60 + oil + 4-5hrs labour +GST. You sure it is the sump gasket ??. The oil filter remote housings leak and so does the dipstick breather hose and rocker cover gaskets. If you havent already....get it checked properly. Autosure may or may not cover it. Depends what policy you have got AA warranty=Autosure. Ring them and check. Cheers Glenn
