Actually the importer was a true collector / hoarder. Crikey he had well north of a hundred cars. He was a smart fellow too, one of the first guys to recognise automotive accessories  could be a lucrative business, , he chose to specialise in wheels and tyres. Deceased now, his memory lives on in the Mag n Turbo brand.

It was around 2001-2 ish, from memory, he imported all 3 and put the estoril car together first, switching to RHD. The damaged Z3 coupe tub, and parts thereoff, and the damaged silver car hung around for ages, sale proof until migrating to the City of Fails and Chancers around 2008 or 9.

Wow.  The harsh reality of automotive 'collecting'. You think you're buying a low mileage masterpiece but really it's a rebuilt wreck.

Is there any way to verify this beyond hearsay?  Any pubic document of import and/or compliance records?  Shouldn't a dealer have to declare the a car has been 'written off' in the past if they are selling it?

No it's only worth 100k to the scammer trying to sell it for 100k.

You are correct. My mistake. So, here's how I see the story going...

It was imported from Japan in 2009 and failed compliance. It's a good guess it was in a bad accident in Japan and poorly repaired, hence the failure. Then parted out and reassembled.  I think I'll call the seller and ask if it has original paint, be interested to hear their answer. 😂

Yup was a HellBM car, pretty sure the low ks was because it was damaged and just sat around until Ray got it and then he repaired it and got it on the road.

I think this is the same car:

Holly S**T!!!! IS this for real?  So this car has been all to bits for non-compliance and re-assembled and this is not mentioned at all in the ad?  What bullsh*t  The last time this car was for sale (still for sale?)  a year or so ago, I had a look at carjam and observed that it had only done 1000 kms in the last 10 years. This concerned me due to degradation from non-use so I called the seller and ask if they could explain why this was.  I was told  'it was owned by a collector'

Now the truth comes out.  So, at some point 12 years ago this car was 'parted out'... then reassembled... and is now worth $100k.  Interesting.

Thanks, so the car sold for around 92K, surprised me that didn't get into 6 digits given the rariety and being well optioned.  I hope it stayed in NZ.

That is interesting. How do you come by this information? (the sale price).  Is the premium on top of this price?

  5. It's back!  But at a premium and without the Type 66 wheels 😕

This was an auction last time and with a few minutes left is was $2500.. so I auto bid $6800. After much late bidding, it sold for $6900, presumably to this guy.

I agree with him about the radio, simple is good,  but not the manual climate control, and no cruise control 😞

  6. Well, this has gotten unexpectedly out of hand.  I just want to sell these control arms... I don't really have a problem with what anyone has said, the initial replies were intended to be helpful, as for the rest, I don't know.

Let me explain a bit further how I come to buy these and why I'd like to sell them.

I have a 95 M3 which needs a new lower ball joint.  I can't buy a ball joint and then I discovered 95 M3s have 'one off' control arms which must be purchased from BMW as no aftermarkets replacements are made  (makes sense, very small market). I then found these control arms which cost slightly more than 1 BMW arm. I realized it was intended for track use but as there seems no other option I bought it.  I should have done more research.  A week later I found that I can buy aftermarket HD Meyle control arms which are fine to use as long as you replace both arms.  Those Meyle arms have HD rubber bushings.  That is my preferred option, though I think the chance of selling these is slim I figured it was worth a shot.

The reason I am reluctant to put these on is that the car already has significant road noise and these, with the solid rear bushings, are going to make the noise worse.  I'm old, I don't like road noise.  However, I'm not rich so if they don't sell in a few weeks I will put them.

I am wondering, could I use these control arms with  regular HD bushings and the stock bushing mount?  Anyone care to ring in on that option?

These arms are NOT for Evo M3s, it says so in the ad, thought not in so many words.  They are NOT for use on 96-99 M3 (Evos).

I'm sure they are fine for street use, but having nearly solid bushings and steel rather than plastic ball joints they will likely give a very direct feel to the steering and increased road noise.  The intent of these is not to change the geometry but to have less deflection under (racing) loads than OEM parts.

More importantly.... someone please buy them 🙂

  8. I bought these in a hurry and now realize I don't really want 'track setup' control arms.  My loss, your gain.  I paid nz$856 for this with shipping (no kidding).  Any one interested in buying them off of me?

    Fits all E36 and Z3, include 94-95 M3, excluding 96-99 M3

    PRICE $650

    Pickup Hamilton/Raglan

I'd be willing to deliver to Auckland area for $50

    (the price below is US$)

OT but Trade me does have a lot of safeguards. Other countries only  have FB Marketplace (or ebay if they are lucky) which is basically a back alley. And that has given rise to the premium auction sites like Bring-a-trailer.

    .

OT. ebay should not be used in the same sentence as TM or FB. ebay has full protection.  It's just a shame sellers won't use in in NZ and shipping is too dear (usually, but not always) to buy from USA or UK. I once unknowingly bought counterfeit (knockoff) tennis racquets on ebay. When I realized it, I got a full refund including shipping.
