  1. So all done. Car is idling normally now with those cables sorted. All up I'm around $450. This includes :

    • New fuel filter
    • New oil filter
    • Penrite full synthetic oil
    • New air filter
    • Rear brake pads (the light was on when I got it - the guy said it just come on, but the bloody brake sensor wire was cut!)
    • Brake rear sensor
    • Main drive belt
    • Bottom hose
    • Temperature sensor (the o ring broke when putting it in on the new one!)
The only thing I really have to get done now is the rocker cover gasket which I'm going to order tomorrow. Just a FYI, I've ordered all the parts bar the hose from MillAnd here in Dunedin. Once we'd made payment, the goods were delivered here within an hour and a half. Great to deal with.

Fully synthetic? That's like giving a drunk teenager a bottle of Grange

  2. I had a laugh when I spotted the asking price on this E30 vert but then the joke was on me when I spotted SOLD at the bottom of the ad - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-701052776.htm

I can't see the value in this - especially with those hideously embroidered seats!

I was looking for a E30 vert for a while but couldn't find one I liked. I also drove one and sadly my memories of driving an E30 (would be ten years since my last one) were not anything like reality.

There have been a few for sale lately, some cheap and snapped up quickly but also lots of dreamers asking big money for average cars which are still listed.

Would be interested in some true market info from anyone on here that has transacted a E30 rag top as a buyer or seller. Also, is there a big price premium for a facelift or manual?

  3. I'm quite interested in this $1 reserve one that's already been posted. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-712570357.htm 200,000 kms is a bit higher than I would have liked, but since it looks like so much has been replaced it may in fact be in better condition than one @ 160,000? There's two other lower km m3's for sale on TradeMe at the moment that look good.. unfortunately neither of the owners respond to my texts and calls, despite multiple attempts. Not sure why you'd but a car fore sale on TradeMe and then not respond to potential buyers. But I digress.

The blue one looks like a lovely honest car. A great buy if you can get it for around $10k!

  4. I bet the E60 M5's dont sell in a hurry either, them being priced closed to the E39 tells you everything. For me it just comes down to who wanting which car at the time, most enthusiasts would take the E39.

The two models attract different buyers so not really relevant here.

I think your E39 M5 is very nice, but rightly or wrongly I wouldn't buy it purely because it is a Singaporean import. People will want to see FULL history from new too.

As it hasn't sold the market is telling you it is overpriced. Plain and simple.

  5. Legally he must sell you the car as a no reserve auction is enough to satisfy the contractual requirement of offer and acceptance.

Depends how badly you want it... Threatening to go legal could work in your favour, but sadly to get real action wouldn't make economic sense

  6. Looks like Audi is now leading the charge and moving away from manuals - see this story: http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/195401FB2E193DF1CA257C9700836672

THE humble manual gearbox could soon be the exclusive province of budget cars and a small number of ‘enthusiast’ vehicles, says Audi board member and head of technical development Ulrich Hackenberg.

Maybe 3pedals should start buying up manuals and if his delusion is right he will be very rich! Plus, prove a whole team of Audi market researchers and planners wrong!

  7. Hi guys, can anyone here recommend a really good product to rejuvinate a convertible top? I recently bought an early '80's Benz SL and the roof is original. Its very tidy but needs something to "feed" the fabric. Also need a recommendation on a good product to remove cloudiness on the plastic screen.

Was going to buy either Meguiars or Mothers but hopefully someone on here with an E30 cab or similar can steer me in the right direction.

  8. I have an older Merc and want to put a decent sound system in it. The car is completely original and I want to keep it looking as clean as possible.

Can anyone recommend a good car stereo installer in Auckland that won't butcher my car?

Also, I haven't bought a car stereo since I pimped out my E30 when I was at high school nearly 15 years ago! Can anyone recommend a good plain looking head unit that will play CD and have an aux input? At this stage I will just get a decent head unit and upgrade the factory speakers - no amps, subs etc

  9. I have a iphone 5S and gave the Mrs. my old iphone 4.

The 4 has finally given up the ghost (battery can't make it through a day, calls continually drop etc) so I need to get her a new phone.

Default option is a new 5C but at $899 I'm starting to look around.

Can anyone recommend something else that is user friendly with a similar interface to the iphone but cheaper? She uses it for calls, texting and looking at Facebook and reading Stuff/NZ Herald. She also uses the Air NZ mpass app a lot, but I see you can also get that from the andriod store.

  10. This could be a bargain for someone with a bit of time on their hands. It looks tatty, but ticks all the boxes - 325i, manual, NZ new, hell rot.

Sweepstakes on closing price? I think $4,200

Same seller also has an interesting E34 530i V8 with cool cloth sport seats. Closes tonight and seems ridiculously cheap at current bid of $800
