Not long ago there were some very nice facelift 94/95 kiwi new 525i's on TradeMe from $4k. I recently had the opportunity to buy a 95 kiwi 540i which was very nice at $7k. There are bargains out there if you spend a bit of time. However, E39's have dropped lately and look like they will drop even more soon. Thus making E34's even cheaper...

BMW Alpina 520i? I never knew such thing existed. The original importer probably swapped the compliance officer a cheeky doz to have Alpina on the reg sticker...

Looks like a really nice car. What are you hoping to get for it? The disappointing thing is that the kms will sought of kill it in terms of price and desirability. I had the same problem when trying to sell my mint NZ New 95 325i last year, travelled 194kms. Had to let it go for $5200 in the end when people were still getting $9k+ for examples travelled 100kms.

Have you tried selling it privately? I would highly recommend this. Your car will have a fixed value as a trade in. Any more they give you is just another form of discount. I.e on a $35k car, your car (for arguments sake) could be $10k as a trade. Say they give you $13k, it makes $22k the difference. I guarantee if you were to buy the car with no trade, you would get that same $3k off the window price.

Yeah it never ceases to amaze me. I met a dipshit last year who bought a new HSV GTO Monaro in 2006 and has locked it up in a shed, as one day it is going to be a "very desirable classic worth lots of money"...

Interesting. For my $5k I would much rather have a top of the line Navman and some hot new wheels. I can see the attraction with OEM satnav, but is it worth another 25% of the purchase price? The other one looks nice, but could you really see yourself in a beige car? I would go with NZ new, dark colour and 2.8l any day of the week.

THat is a good buy. Not long ago you would have paid that for an import sedan

The dark blue 328i on TradeMe for $20.5 looks like a good bet. Ticks all the boxes. It's been listed for a while, so im sure you could do a bit of negotiating.

Wow it is interesting to see BP really dominates here! Apart from the fuel discount vouchers, is there is another reason for this?

If you want toys, then why not buy a Volvo?

Could be worse, I once saw "ANL247"...

That the police might be able to track them down if they talk about doing dubious things in posts. Or, that someone might take a liking to their car, do a reg check, find out where they live, and steal it. Both things happening are highly unlikely.

Because they are paranoid

Definately. Search for ML's vs. X5's, 5 series vs. E-Class etc on TradeMe. There are some bargains to be had out there
-
I was being slightly sarcastic. It just amazes me how much people think these old buckets are worth. You could get a real classic like a E39 M5, E30 M3 etc with change to spare! I guess at the end of the day, cars are like a stamp collection - worth only what the next buyer is willing to pay for them.

Just filled up the car last night at BP using Ultimate. Cost over $100... Which got me thinking, is this high octane unleaded really worth it? I have heard from several people that the high octane stuff is much better for your car and because the octane is higher, the car uses less (so the cost of running works out to be the same). Is this true? What are your thoughts?

An interesting find on TradeMe Im a bit confused. Has the seller made a typo? Shouldn't it be $8,990, not $89,990. Its got a yellow interior, tri-spokes and was made in Australia!

Cheers for your help guys. Settled for a ICN530. The 330 seemed a bit too "entry level" and none of the extras of the 730 did much for me. Got a good deal as stock was being cleared for the new S30 and S50.

You mean a gear shift boot? You can find good leather ones on eBay with M-Sport stripes quite cheaply.

Where is Jonah Lomu when you need him? -
Good buying. I guess if it is RHD or more than 20 years old it can be complied?

An X5 for under $35k will be a bit hard. It amazes me how much people are still getting for X5's and E39's. Not sure if you would look at Mercs, but there are some bargains to be had out there! NZ New ML500 NZ New ML350 (04) NZ New E55 Wagon

The saga continues... I WROTE Thank you for your reply. I was under the impression that the car was in Auckland. Where is it actually based? Do you have the TradeMe account details or do I contact them directly? My only concern is that this car is very cheap and sounds too good to be true. Is there a reason why you are selling it for such a low price? Thanks SELLER REPLIES Hi, This was my brother car but he is not anymore. I don't want to get rich by its selling, just want to give it to someone who will take good care. Because of my job I am traveling a lot and I can not stay home and expect to meet potential client. The car is located in London i will handle the shipping taxes i need full name and full address , so i can contact TradeMe so we will be able to start the transaction.

Second reply from the seller: Ok, ,i will send it from here and the shipping is free If we decide to proceed with this transaction, i will have to contact TradeMe and provide them all the necessary information, so they can start the process right away. I will be needing your full name and address for that. You will receive a notification from TradeMe shortly after that, together with all the instructions to follow and the invoice as well. Regarding the payment, you will be instructed to deposit the money to an TradeMe account. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. That is how their buyer protection policy is working. As far as the seller concerns, i will be glad to know that TradeMe has the possession of the money during the delivery period. That is my insurance. As soon as i will have the confirmation from TradeMe that the funds have been deposited to their account, i will immediately start the shipping process. The car will be delivered to your address in no more than 10 working days. You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home. If you decide to hold the car, then you will have to authorize TradeMe to release the funds to me, and the transaction will be completed. If you will not be satisfied with the car, you will be able to send the car back through the same shipping company, and ask TradeMe to return the funds to you. Though i am sure you will love the car and will not want to return it, it is good to know that you do have this second option available. If you wish to proceed with the purchase, please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through TradeMe right away. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, P.S. Send me also your TradeMe ID. I can see how this would fool some people. I bet he has just opened a foreign bank account called Trade Me. Also, ten days from the UK seems rather unbelieveable! Shall I send a reply back? What should I hit him with?
