    Arrrgghh.....

Thnaks I agree about the drop but as it's going to do roads like Skipper Canyon, 90 mile beach, and Mt Dobson ski field access road it will probably keep it's higher riding stance (for now anyway). Am talking with a guy from Strong Honda about if the 172kw V6 out of a 2003 Accord V6 would fit, but that sort of thing is a year of two off. Getting some better sounds is a high priorty as are a set of roof rails in time for ski season.

    Arrrgghh.....

Well it is a Honda which isn't what the sites about but at least it's wheels are more in line with the 20" wheels on the 740 and the 19" on the SLK. With 7 seats and 4WD it's a perfect complement to the 740 and SLK. Rear wheel on this side has a little curbing but other 3 are 100% mint with 8mm tread too! Had the wheels balanced and got lock nuts today. Will try Nitrogen in the tyres on the weekend, and probaly do it for the 740 as well.

    Arrrgghh.....

Sellers shirty responses got deleted by trademe. Unessesary questions? oh you mean like "what model tyre is it?", "how bad is the curbing damage", "what happended to the $600 no reserve?". You must be having me on. If the seller had a brain they would add this info to their description. Especially if the seller claims to work for Beaurepaires - a tyre company! You could expect from a tyre industry person to provide things like wheel offset, what tyre it is. In this case the only 215/40/18 Yokohama list in NZ is an S.drive - the tyre was not an S.drive based on tread pattern - so what was it? It's like saying a tyre is a "Dunlop", and if you can't find the tyre on the NZ site then it may be some strange JDM tyre, the reason it's important - tyres have load ratings - and some are much lower than others and therefore not suitable. In this case I had decided I was just going to sell the tyres and buy new ones from Johno so the fact that the seller couldn't answer didn't mater. Having just logged on and clicked on my auction in the watch list there didn't seem any need to click refresh - it's not like anyone else was biding. Anyway have have bought 18" Alloys with Bridgestone RE040 tyres 225/45/18 which are ideal for the Odyssey (within 1%). Offset matches perfectly.
  5. Good tip - but how many peope have already ripped a large CD collection at a low bit rate. Also you are stuck with the quality for purchased music from iTunes. Net effect is that this impacts the sound quality from this unit. So if people are up for re-ripping their CD's at a higher bit rate to get quality sound then this units great, or if they can't be botthered but they they don't really care about music as long as there is a sub out for BASE, it works well too. Other units can compensate for compression effects so you get a more musically sound from an iPOD which may be worth investigating. My solution is to get an iPOD get a unit that will also play CD's, and any new music I rip is at a higher bit rate.
  6. Thanks - I've hit the buy now on a set of Mazda RX8 wheels running 3 RE040's 225/45/18 and 1 Dunlop. Offset for the RX8 standard 18 inch is +50, and thats the same for the Odyssey, and the RX8 wheel is lightweight. The wheels and tyres have done 1600km. However I'll want another bridgestone - can you price this up or am I better off going to firestone? Jim

    Arrrgghh.....

Exactly - I was going to hit buy now but my wife suggested to put an autobid on for $800, that way if no one else bids you get them for $600. As it stood no one else bid so i would have got them for $600.But buy now probably wouldn't have worked anyway - damned trademe was showing info that wasn't current - even though I'd just logged on - so as i was bidding seller was changing the price.
  8. I had one of these installed in my wifes SLK for her last birthday. The SLK has pretty good speakers which we didn't change however the end result isn't as great as we like. Plenty of base, lots of highs, and goes loud BUT.... And the BUT is this; the music on an iPOD is horribly comnressed, and if as such when you play it back through good gear you may want to compensate for this (for example Yamaha hometheater amps with the iPOD docks have special filters to componsate for the compression). This unit doesn't do this, and I suspect this may be why the sound leaves us unmoved. I want music. I think the later repalkcement does include some form of filter to deal with this. Other thing is you might expect the 'enter' button to be on the dial - it isn't, it's on a button to the left of the main dial which I never find 'intuitive'. The graphics on the cover art is very low resolution. I paid $750 installed. I'm looking for a stereo for my Odyssey and will be installing one with a CD player AND with iPOD control - I still want to be able to play high qulaity music. Getting an installed price for an Alpine 9884 next week.

    Arrrgghh.....

Good point. I asked her to blacklist me so i never make the mistake of bidding on one of her dubious auctions again.

    Victoria Fires

I don't think anyones getting out of persepctive here - except you - you are on a topic started about the Victoria fires - what did you think people would be posting about? duh! If someones murdered in NZ, and you don't know them, and it's not in your town, is it relevant to you? If someones murdered in your town, getting more relevant? If someoens murdered in your street, are you going to be talking about it? A state of Australia has just hasd over a 100 people murdered by fire. A lot of Kiwis have holidays in Victoria, a lot of Kiwis live there. These are people who have friends and relatives here in NZ. Of couse it's going to get more attention - it's more relevant to NZ.

    Victoria Fires

That comment is unfair. One story I saw in the local paper was where people saw the fire come over a hill 15k's away - and many decided to leave, and 10 minutes later theywere being burned alive in their cars. Thats a fire travelling over 100kph. The other thing is they have ways of dealing with fires, and everyone should have a fire plan. The policy is to the leave early or stay and defend. This has worked with other fires but not this time. People that did everything right, has a fire plan, had removed the dead brush that builds up, had water supplies and petrol pumps going in case power failed, that normally would have survived, didn't. These fires were just do big and too fast.
  12. OK - I personally like the X6 - but this is a nightmare. A 5 meter long 4 seater hatch? Yeah Right
  13. I'm watching on auction on trademe for some alloys that have 115/45/18 Bridgestone RE040's on them. Are these any good? By the way they are for my Odyssey. Looking at either replacing the tyres (got a quote), getting some alloys and putting some tyres on them (message sent to Johno), or buying some second had rims with tyres.

    Arrrgghh.....

I spend much of the day following an auction for some Advanti Photon allows with 215/40/18 Yokohama Advan tyres (near new) which had a $600 no reserve, and an $800 buy now. As it was only 2 hours to go with no bids I thought I'd do an Autobid up to the buy now price (or $1 more). So I enter my $801 autobid and expect to see that I'm leading with a bid of $600. Not so. I'm leading with a bid at $801 and the reserve hasn't been reached yet; a WTF mnoment indeed. I though something was wrong with trademe, reported a fault, and asked for my bid to be removed so i could do it again. Apparently the seller (I think it's a chick) works for Baurepaires and a mate who offered her $850 so she put the reserve up to that price (and it had to be at the same time I was bidding). Learning this I sent a question stating that they appeared to be jacking the price to avoid a sale via trademe, when they should either withdraw it, or the mate should bid on trademe. Seller got pretty shitty with me on the responses, and claimed they were not trying to avoid fees as the mate would be bidding through trademe. These questions and responses got removed. So guess what auction just closed with no bids, what happend to the mate? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=201778577

    Victoria Fires

I'm in Melbourne working this week and am sickened by the the death and distruction from the fire's here. The News Papers are full of images and stories that are just horrible. Can't imagine a worse way to go. Apparently some were started delibrately. Some crimes are just too bad for life sentances to be an adequate punishment or deterent. Those responsible should be removed from society, a one way trip in a coffin to a crematorium, alive seems fair too me.
  16. Like the 1st ones too, although would really like metallic lip with white spokes. This would match the car which is white with some silver trim. Unfortunately the ones in the 1st pic were pick up only in Auckland. Suggested I'd take them if seller could get them to Mainfrieght depot - cost depot to deport should be less than $100. Auction closed withoiut a bid and no response so i guess he really doesn't want to sell.
  17. lol - no chromes or monsta tacho. Am considering new wheels though - currently has a different tyre on each conrner - all with good tread but WTF! If I stay with these wheels I'll go for Yokohama C.drive 215/60/16 - only $179 each. However given the size of the weehls on my 740 and Merc I don't think thats very likely! I'd like to get the 1st set as they are only $450 buy now BUT they are in Auckland and pickup only! I should have planned my trip better and checked trademe before I left - doh! The last pic is of the wheels I had my my old Odyssey - I still like them.
  18. No problem with Matt - much better than many. My 3rd car purchase via Trademe. I've sold 2 cars and 1 Motorcycles now too.
  19. I checked and country of 1st registration is Japan. Aircon / heater is going fine front and rear. Thanks anyway.
  20. I found Matt excellent to deal with, and a pleasant change from some. The car is very realistically priced and I'm pleasantly surprised at the condition. There are deallers out there like Wholesale Cars Direct in Lower Hutt that would be asking over $15,000 for this car. Matt was asking $10,990 and let it go for $10,000. It's a lot of car for $10,000.
  21. I had the 2.4 XLS 5 seater. My V6 Odyssey so far seems more economical. Mitsubishi CLAIM a fuel efficiency of about 12km/l, it actually averaged about 8.5km/l over 75,000km. Honda (on their online fact sheet) claim 9km/l for the V6 4WD Oddyssey. I filled up in Auckland, and 440km later it took 42 litres (110 to 120kph on the speedo) with plenty of stop go for road works and resealing. Filled up tonight after lots of commutting with stop go traffic and 55 litres for 500km. Compared to the 740i? trust me - I'm not complaining.
  22. Air condioning isn't getting as cold as it should in the b740 this summer so probably time for re-gassing. Any recommendations on where to take it?
  23. Wellington Star replaced the hose clips and no more oil leak (cost buggar all to do too).
  24. On the surface this makes sense BUT a lot of people driving some very expensive cars, living in some very expensive homes have under our current tax law almost no income. I suggest less fines and more immediate consequence - like instant impounding your car - now thats going to get anyones attention. Caugh driving your pink stickered POS - a trip to the crusher. By the way saw some moron stopped by the cops with his pink stiucker still on his POS. Guess where he was trying to park - in Harris Street beside Wellington central police station, right opposite where the patrol cars exit the building. LOL
