  1. Does anyone have any details/plans/sketches/blueprints or any measurements for some turbo m30 e30 engine mounts?

Or have any idea on where to find some?.... Have looked through e30.de and bimmerforums and so on but there are no detailed examples ( not looking to steal anyone's work, just looking for ideas)

I'm wanting to make my own but am struggling a little bit on ideas/shapes for the mounts.

    Cheers

  2. My personal observations from fitting the RX7s on the race car...

Rotor thickness is the same, but isn't really an issue as they are vented. +20mm diameter gives a big increase in surface area - as its a circle.

RX7 pads look to have bigger surface area than E30 pads - yes they are small in relation to the calipers.

Got my 15" weaves over the calipers using a 5mm spacer, many designs of 15" wheel clear the calipers without need for any spacer depending on the offset.

4 x pistons in the RX7 versus the one on the E30, much better to have equal pressure on both sides of the disc than one piston and sliding caliper. I would say the balance on my E30 is now better with the RX7 fronts than it was with the standard E30 set-up.

Over-all it is a very good bang for buck upgrade of the E30 front brakes, better bite (without being grabby), good balance, etc. I am running Hawk HP+ pads front and rear which probably contributes as well. I'm sure there are better brake set ups for the E30, but at much greater cost. Plus pads and rotors are easily obtainable for this swap, not hard to get dedicated Wilwood / Brembo / AP Racing parts.

    Jon,

Do you reckon they could hold up to 350hp? mainly street driven but will have some tract/thrash sessions

Plus the added weight of an m30?

    Cheers

  3. I have a 4.1 Medium built by Kayne Barrie in my race car that is being swapped out for a large case.  The diff has been fully rebuilt and has been slightly ramped up making it lock up much better than stock.  Though I would want $500 and your diff.  Over $1200 has been spent on it and has done very little KM's since the build.

Dan, Do you have any idea on what this will change the revs to at 100kms? As the e30 will be a hillclimb/weekend fun car (no real track time atm)

  4. I wish I knew more about diffs... will it swap on to an E36 M3 (stock large, 3.15) do you know?

    If so I'll take it.

I have no idea but you would have thought you could just change the rear housing around and the front mount point and it would work... otherwise the internals are/should be the same.

Or could just ask ray/ andy/ or brent .ahahaha

  5. I have for sale/swap an LSD out of a 535i e34. Up for sale as it wont fit the the e30 without a lot of work which i haven't budgeted for.

Ideally I would swap for a medium case LSD in similar ratio or cash to buy one.

    info:

    Ratio- 3.64

    Aprox kms- 190ish

    No leaks or wines

Can come with the rear half of the drive shaft as well

    Price: $800

  7. Cheers guys, definitely a lot to take in and consider but not in a rush to sink into anything.

Dave, that is some solid advice. Im for sure after the #3 "Pro" type tools rather than Workshop level - I will definitely look into the Teng tools range as I was considering building up my own set and that sounds quite ideal. And yup deep sockets and all that are on my list, too many times I've come across those hard to get bolts which would be a breeze with the right sockets!

My current tools consist of random sockets and ratchets I've picked up along the way, bought individually. I once had a complete Jonnesway kit which I still have the ratchets, but the sockets are mostly gone because I kept them in a small throw-all-in box instead of seating them back into the proper tray box. I'm basically missing all the common e30 sizes 8mm, 10mm, 13mm etc.

Mate bnt is having a sale on jonnesway tools atm, my mates and i use them all the time... pretty good on the price side of things and the tools aint sh*t

  8. I want it to be reliable, it will be a mix of road and track use but mainly road use. The goal is 300-350hp at the rears, i had the rolling body weighed (minus the M50 and gearbox and an empty tank) its had some weight removed and it was just over 800kg so will be a light car with either option. Ill be building it myself so will keep costs down and not in too much of a hurry as car doesn't get driven often, i like the idea of having low down torque with reliability though

Reliable and easyish and self built = v8 or thats what id do... 300hp atw would be a good result from an m60 ..... Plus v8= amazing sound

  9. all depends on what you want from the car man. turbo = power ( lots of it if u want lots) but lag and other little annoyances or v8 = torque and response but not a lot of hp (not much more than 300hp with a tune)

Edit: not sayong that 300 is a small amount of hp, just that with turbo there is a higher chance of making more power without becoming bankrupt
