  1. Hi, My new e30 seems to run a bit hotter than other cars I have owned. When I start it the temp is in the blue, but this quickly rises to around half way in around 10 minutes. Is this normal, or is it something I should be worried about. Btw, it's a '88 318i Manual, and has recently had the radiator replaced. Cheers.
  2. Exactly what i've been wondering. Or is there an online vin decoder that is really comprehensive?
  3. Too dark at the moment, will post tomorrow.
  4. I've bought an e30, with lovely 15" basketweaves, although 2 are missing and 1 is in pretty bad nick. Does any body have them, or are they cheap enough to buy at the dealer? Cheers
  5. I'd like it but a little too expensive for an e30 for me. It's a fast red one! TradeMe
  6. This is what came out of the vin decoder thingy: Chassis number 2610732 Vehicle code AF52 Series E30 Model 318i ( 318i M40 ) Body type coupe Catalog model ECE Production date 1987 / 12 Engine M40 Transmission Manual Steering Right Catalyzer YES Additional Information for Vehicle code AF52 Production FROM : 1987/06/01 TO : 1993/09/30 Engine M40 B18 Engine Oil 4.00 Liter Transmission Manual Transmission Model Getrag 242/19 Transmission Oil 1.00 Liter Rear Axle Oil 0.90 Liter Coolant(w/o Air Conditioner) 6.10 Liter Coolant(with Air Conditioner) 6.30 Liter Brake fluid 1.00 Liter Remarks : Maybe it is wrong?
  7. It's a facelift, M40 engine and black bumpers etc. I put the vin through the decoder and apparently the gearbox is a Getrag 242/19
  8. The gearbox is a Getrag 242 if that helps... Thanks
  9. Can you elaborate on the new mounts and gearbox seal? How much is expensive etc.?
  10. I have a just recieved a pre purchase inspection for an e30 318i i'm looking at in Queenstown. Some bits sound not too good, and I was wondering if somone can clarify them. Thanks *Power Steering fluid black and burnt *Right hand engine damper leaking *Rear control arm inner bushes inner and outer perished, both sides *Oil leak at rear of gearbox *Signs of coolant weep at heater hose connections at rear of cylinder head. Are any of these overly concering? Are any, easy to fix faults, or something I should be concerned about? Cheers, Eddy

    Europlates

Yep it is Pauanui, from Paku. Some houses up Paku have lovely views, along with real estate prices that are just fantastic... for the owner of the house.

    Europlates

A bit off topic I know. Ray, do you still have that fantastic looking lagoon green 320i convertible?
  14. I was at Turners for yesterday's auction and didn't any 328i's - or even any e36's for sale bar one 318ti. Strange

    Sunday Drive

Saw that CLK DTM on Saturday, roaring down Jervois Road in Ponsonby. Whoever drives that sure likes to drive fast!
  16. How do you think BMW is regarded New Zealand wide and partcularly by non-BMW owners/drivers? How do you think people in NZ see BMW drivers? It really depends what the age is of the BMW. I, when driving my uncles near new 545i, have had abuse hurled at me at the lights in the not-so-nice parts of town. This was simply because I was a young man, driving an expensive car. That particular car has also been keyed an incredible number of times, to the point when my uncle bought a Peugeot 307 to run around in, leaving the BMW purely for weekends and some work travelling. However, if the person is driving a 1985 BMW 320i, with bent bumpers and gold peeling paint, that person is likely to be regarded just like every other 20 year old budget car driver. But, I have found - especially in rural towns, where BMWs are not so commonplace, that the driver a BMW is regarded as a "rich prick", even though the BMW they are driving is 10 years old and worth about $6K. This results from a large stereotype that BMW drivers are just that, rich pricks.

    The Hate Thread

I hate it when you organise to buy the perfect car, and then purchase flights as the car is 500+ km away from where you live, only to find a text message 2 days later saying the owner (and I quote) "cannot say goodbye". Grrrrrrr - I also hate bloody Air NZ Cancellation Insurance that won't refund your flights "in those circumstances".
  18. My extended family has had a stroke of unluck when it comes to imported cars. Because of this, and because of the fact I want to bring a 20 year old European car home, they have decided to restict me to NZ New e30s only. It's either that or a mediocre Corolla.
  19. Sorry Em, bit too overpowered for a youngish kid Must admit, lovely car though; but you shouldn't be selling it! Comon' guys! I'm getting rather desperate after 3 potential great cars falling through. Will consider anything now, but must be NZ New.
  20. Sorry to jump in the convo..., but what is the best college? And what ones would you otago guys recommend staying away from? Just out of curiosity.
