I love my E39. Arguably the best looking BMW ever made I reckon and they're fun to drive. 530's got enough grunt for what is a pretty big car. Before I bought mine I test drove some 523s and 520s and they just didn't have enough power. A 540 or M5 would be super fun but I imagine they chew through petrol which we all know isn't as cheap as it used to be. My 528s got enough grunt while still being reasonably economical... And it looks bloody great!

Awesome. I'd be happy with half your motivation and 10% of your know how! I'll have to settle for beg, borrow and stealing (well, working, in my case) to pay for the work on my car!
-
Yeah, very happy with it. The profile looks way better too.

Only got a crap phone pic and the car's still wet from overnight so it's pretty bright, but gives you the idea. Will take some proper pics soon when I've sorted the rear bumper trim.

Someone please buy this and let me drive it. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=477685506

Cheapest I found were US$120 incl. shipping so not that expensive, but a lot more expensive than some plastic putty and a can of paint! Gave me something to do since I'm not much good at fixing anything on the inside! Had the bumper fitted by professionals in the end and glad I did. Fitment was good but a few challenges that I would have struggled with - particularly with air intakes that screwed to the OEM bumper but had not fixings on the new aftermarket one. Looks good though, very happy.

Took the door mouldings off this weekend and filled the recess where the chrome strip is with plastic putty. Sanded and sprayed with Plasti Dip as recommended by e34play. Pretty happy with the results. Rear trim's not going to work so well as the chrome strip is a separate piece. I've decided to source some secondhand black trim from eBay so will have to put up with chrome rear trim for a while. M-sport front bumper's going on today. Will post some pics when it's one.

Only one of mine works and I've replaced the batteries in both. The red LED works on both keys, even the one that won't open the door, so it's definitely the transmitter. I don't have a remote to open any of the other locked doors in my life so I can probably live with it on the car too!

Dropped in on Brent HARTGE535i yesterday and raided the 540i he's picked up. Fitted replacement centre engine closing panel and cabin filter air channel, fixed coolant leak. Also removed all the door trim mouldings, filled the recess where the chrome strip is with plastic putty and sprayed with Plasti Dip as recommended by e34play. They look good. Will post some pics soon. Kicking back now and trying to work out where I can come up with some $$$s to get the TV unit and amp from Brent's 540 to replace my old school tape deck and tuner in my 528i.

On closer examination I don't think it's going to work for the rear bumper trim so probably have to buy black replacement but could be okay on the door mouldings. Only problem is when I fill and sand the recess where the chrome trim is it'll be really smooth while the plastic moulding has a textured finish so not sure how great it'll look. Found a full set of plain black on eBay for around $140 shipped, so may just do that.

SOLD SOLD SOLD It's this one:

Not sure. Rear trim on mine's going to be harder to get smooth than the door mouldings as the chrome trim sticks out a bit rather than being recessed. Will let you know you how I get on with Green Putty and Plasti Dip!
-
Thanks! I think they're already on my watchlist hah! Would prefer plain (no M5 emblem). My car's just a regular 528i. It had an M-Sport emblem on the back when I bought it but pretty certain some dreamer stuck that on so I've removed it and bought a 528i emblem... But the m-sport bumper is cool!
-
Yeah, I think you're right. The bumper's sitting on my office floor taking up too much space so going to try and fit this weekend. Have bought a can of plasti dip so I'll try that on the mouldings first and turn to Ray/Brent/ebay if the experiment fails. Will post pics if it works though!
-
Or maybe I'll just do the whole car!! http://www.dipyourcar.com/

I was thinking of two options: Buy new trim (can get a full set of door mouldings on eBay for about $140 shipped, and reckon I can pick up the bumper mouldings for under $100) or... Fill the recess where the chrome trim is and get a signwriter to vinyl wrap (had a quote for $150 to wrap in metallic black to match the car) but not 100% sure how good this will look unless the mouldings are perfectly smooth. Tell me about plasti dip?!

Hey Brunch. Have you got any more pics of your E39. Trying to decide whether to fit the Sport front bumper and dechrome the door mouldings. I quite like yours with the chrome trim around the windows but not on the door mouldings. -
Cool, thanks.
-
If you don't want to DIY, a signwriter (one that does car wraps and signs) would do it. Probably cost around $100-150 and would be perfectly finished, so around the same or less than trying to pick up replacement trim from o/seas.

Okay, so disconnecting the battery for 30 mins before and after the operation should fix the potential airbag warning light issue. Anyone had any experience of changing/repairing the lumbar supports? I don't know what's wrong with it yet, whether it's a disconnected hose to the bag, the pump itself or some other issue. Anyone know what the common issues are? Passenger side one works fine, are they interchangeable? Not so concerned that I'll pay megabucks to fix so DIY help and advice appreciated.

Fair enough, thought I'd post it because it's easy to find amazingly beautiful natural backdrops everywhere in NZ. Much harder to find a decent piece of urban art! -
Agreed. When I saw the clip I was certain it was going to show up on Jono's show or similar, until the guy got charged.Unpleasant behaviour by the cleaner and TV3 if you ask me.
-
Has anyone done this? http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/00/50/64 If so, is it easy? I know I'll have to reset the airbag warning light if I take the seat out but not sure how easy this lumbar fix is. As you can tell most of posts are about the comfort and appearance of my car. Sums me up I think! hah Plus I'm getting older and lumbar support is genuinely useful!

Personally, I love the wood trim but vinyl wrapping is pretty easy. You can also get complete sets of non-wood trim on ebay pretty cheaply just check they will ship to NZ. Full silver trim set with shipping to NZ only GBP24... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E39-silver-t...8#ht_1862wt_956
