  1. Yes, manual rack is available, a standard item on lower spec'd E30s.

As far as full roll cage goes, read this.

MotorSport New Zealand (MSNZ) in conjunction with NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) and the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA) has formulated alternative standards for vehicles permanently modified for motor sport competitions which require to be road registered and used on public roads. The MotorSport/LVV Authority Card is proof that a vehicle modified for motor sport purposes complies with accepted alternative standards (to those of the original manufacturer). The Authority Card details the owner, the vehicle and the applicable approved modifications. The Authority Card is recognised in the NZTA Rules and the LVV Code and is required in order to obtain a Warrant of Fitness. When an owner of a competition vehicle wishes to use it on a public road it is a legal requirement to have an Authority Card issued by MotorSport NZ, if any of the following items are fitted / modified:

    Competition safety harness

Roll protection that extends forward of the front seating positions and/or modifications that effect the interior impact rule

Removal of an airbag SRS system

    Braided hydraulic brake lines

    Hydraulic handbrake

    Plastic glazing.

Applying for an Authority CardYou must hold a current MotorSport NZ competition licence and the vehicle must have a competition logbook.Application is made by completingform T007.Renewing an Authority CardWhen an Authority Card expires and the vehicle it relates to is required to continue to be used on public roads, renewal of the card is required – this is irrespective of the current validity of the vehicles Warrant of Fitness.Application is made by completing form T008.

Wow thanks for that its exactly what i needed to know ill keep that all in mind,

do you know if there are any limitations on the entry/exit space interfered with by the side bar?

ie: does it have to be below a certain height?

  2. 3SGE out of an altezza ? Arent they iron block slugs, If you were looking at going 4cyl non turbo have you considered an F20C ??

The altezza engine is a full alloy set up and only weights 100kg, its very light and good for 8000rpm and a big plus is they are considerably cheap, a full setup with the gearbox only cost me 1800

  3. Hi all

so i have not long bought an e30 coupe and have decided to take this one back to a bare shell and start again on the rebuild and was wondering if anyone could help me with a few questions.

firstly did they release a 3 series in New Zealand with a manual steering set up? i want to run manual steering as it will make the engine conversion easier, as a 3SGE beams Toyota engine and gearbox will be going in would rather not have to worry about the p/s pump.

Secondly has anybody done the 3SGE conversion into the E30? any help would be appreciated.

Finally does anyone know if there are any legal requirements when it comes to full roll cages for street cars? id rather not find out when it comes to getting a cert that it all needs re-doing.

Any info would be greatly appreciated[/font]
