I suppose there is nothing against making up names for cars though, I call my Corolla White Lightning or XL-1.3-R Type-S Nurb edition but the transport agency don’t share my enthusiasm.
A 320i with a 3.5 Turbo is still just a 320i.
Just to confuse you, it is officially registered as a BMW ALPINA, it used to be an Alpina C1 2.3
Calling it a 335ti is an attempt at using BMW nomenclature to describe the body and engine of the vehicle, though the t is a little misleading vs. the definition of a 318ti

Correct - its a 5HP24 not a 5HP30. Worth investigating in case reverse drums are compatible, as I am yet to see anyone with a 5HP30 around yet!
-
I have got a auto box from a 1997 740i that I dont need if thats anygood to you?
Sounds great - I have PM'd you
-
In case the check ball repair does not work out - does anyone have one of these?
-
Call and I will explain repair process. Requires a $7 part and some patience. Have heard of trans repair specialists charging a few thousand $ to sort the same problem.
Thanks greatly for the offer Ray - I will call you soon!
-
put into reverse and motor revs up slightly, but nothing after that. All forward gears fine - does that help? What are the symtoms of the trans in the car? With 5HP30 it can sometimes be an easy fix.
-
Anyone got one lying around that they want to offload? thanks!
-
Ahh all good I use to see your e30 at my gym all the time - thought you might have the chevette now.
Clearly we go to the same gym - I am guessing you mistake the fiat 850 for a chevette? I am at the gym every weekday from around 4:30
-
i know someone who can repair it , just done a e34 540i with the same problem
Howdy Brent, long time no speak! rough idea of the cost there? I am weighing up just chucking in an M30b35 setup from pick a part and selling off the V8 parts if I cannot fix the box for less than what the car cost (parts value really).
Also quite keen to take on the rebuild challenge, done plenty of motors and gearboxes, no auto trans work though
-
do you also have a green Vauxhall Chevette on gold rims?
not a chance - though I do know someone with a chevette HSR replica? I have a fiat 850 in the same colour scheme if that is what you are thinking of. I dont think the motor and gearbox out of either would make a good fix for the 740 though

Hi guys,
picked up a slightly tired 740il to a-frame the 335i turbo to the track - finally!
Has WOF and rego, but no reverse
I have had a look around and am weighing up my rebuild options, has anyone successfully done a no reverse repair themselves here, or should I be the guinea pig?
EDIT: pics now attached

^ Also had pretty average service from Al's.
Pit stop in Albany are pretty on to it, and easy to deal with.
Pit stop in Albany have been awesome, the guy that used to run it did my 335 turbo exhaust so I recommended them to a friend after he went from twin to single turbo (GTR).
They have however changed hands since then.
I watched the new crew butcher his exhaust and leave it scraping and banging everywhere, and overcharge him to boot. Then in an attempt to rectify it they just made it even worse by heating it up and bending it everywhere they could instead of just cutting it and re-welding it.
Not saying anything either way just my experience!

Sounds real exciting Damo, you'd be posting some respectable lap times with that kind of speed? Hope to be joining the turbo club next season myself.
not at all, I was probably doing 2 minute laps Just went out there to see how everything would feel at those speeds, but taking the corners super easy until I learn to drive and get some semi's on the rear - semi's on front and road tires rear makes for very unpredictable grip...

Hi All!
Been a while since I updated this, but nobody is buying it so I have decided to have a little play:
I took the car out to the track for the first time in 4+ years a few weeks ago for a sunday drive, just to make sure nothing fell off I was particularly paranoid about the brakes (NZV8 package adapted to e36 hubs) but they felt waaaaay better on the track than they do on the road.
It was also overfuelling like mad due to my rough mapping at the new boost level, so much so that one of the young E30 series racers asked me if it was a diesel
Being unused for so long though, I did find that all of my once new radiator hoses decided to split, every time I came back into the pits I blew another one!! so I decided it was time for a completely new cooling system before I get on the track again.
- New wastegate spring now at 10psi instead of 6~8
- Adjustable camber subframe in rear, now back to ~1 degree camber in rear
- Wilwood 6 pots (ex NZV8)
- alloy 2 core 56mm radiator
- swirl/header tank and new silicon hoses all round, re-routed cooling system for better flow
- air diverter plate for new rad
I will take some engine bay pics this weekend. I am well hooked on track time in this car now, so hoping to get out there a few more times this summer once I get hold of a tow car.
I also noticed it starting feeling very 'light' in the rear over 230kph, I think that may be a combination of too hard rear suspension, the big air scoop under the car created by my rear bumper, and possibly lack of a spoiler? what do you guys think?

Hi guys, after rolling my 2002 touring a while back I have picked up another 2002 (regular coupe not touring) without motor for next to nothing, absolute rustbucket but thats the fun part! The previous owners bought it for its tii motor that they put in their tidy 2002.
So in an effort to get it moving, I am after an M10 runner, EFI or not, I am hoping someone has one lying in their back yard after an m20bxx upgrade? Also after flywheel and clutch if possible? I am in auckland so somewhere in the top half of the north island would be great.
Cheers!
Damo.

Unsure what the E30M50 Turbo sold for, but I'd say you're barking up the right tree Damo.
Weren't the RS' redrilled? You running adapters to the 5x120 gear, or were the centers 5x120 to start with?
Wanna part with the Startec tails and the French lights (assuming they're proper frenched ellips) ?
I have a spare set of startecs if you have $$$$$$$$$$$$
The headlights I cannot part with, they are pre FL non ellipsoid anyway.

Would have thought it was very realistic Damo. Good luck, if I win lotto you'll be hearing from me.
Is the 255 hp, at the wheels?
Yes all figures at the wheels - Im crossing my fingers for you
-
What you guys think of the price? Controversial question I know
-
I'm practically giving these away! Buy buy buy!
Do they have flat mounting faces (i.e. are they re-drillable) or do they have spaces in between the stud/bolt holes?

I think you are right about the going wideband thing,
Basically at the moment im still trying to get the engine running correctly, and have never had a way to monitor my air/fuel mixture to make sure the car was running right, and could maybe use it for the alfa aswell
but im willing to take suggestions for you reakon i should leave it and once i get my ecu, get a wideband air/fuel ratio meter.
any help would be appreciated
If you are interested and can wait a bit, I can give you the wiring diagram/programming for my M30 turbo setup, and I can get hold of a VEMS ECU for you or point you in the direction of buying one. I also have an unused narrow band smoke type guage if you want to buy it to check things out until you go aftermarket ECU.
Regards,
Damian.

Ill start a thread once I can drag her out into the sunlight (still on pedal power).
1972 2002....... only a matter of time until it becomes a 2002 turbo
