Just did a fluid change on my GM transmission on my 130i. About 3.2L came out and was only able to put 2.4L back in. After each time I got a constant dripping, I idled the car and put as much more in as I could a couple of times. What should I do?

    Thanks

Did you follow the process of shifting thru the gears and getting trans oil temp up to spec before refilling?

Ah you could easily mistake that for multiple lifters having failed.
Is this due to infrequent oil servicing?

Not too sure, possibly low on oil. Last service it had in March i think they only put 4.5l in it, as when I drove it home from Hamilton it pretty much straight away asked for more oil. Checking the level in mm I put 2l in and it was around 72mm at normal temp on a flat surface.

Thought this might be a good place to ask. Anyone here got a spare ccc Idrive screen left over from an upgrade they’d be wanting to sell for cheap?

I’ve got parts leftover from 2 I made 1 decent out of. The screen is toast, casings are damaged so the only useful bits are the cable and flipping motor drive mechanism.

  4. Full lci interior swap done, much nicer than black on black.

Been busy getting my white 130i for sale so not much attention to this one for now. Didn’t make track day last month but planning to go 29th June.

  5. Been busy with the interior, full lci interior swap over a wip. Dashboard swap next…

Between 06/06 and 01/08 cars exchanging fr seats are all happy bar the upper seat width adjusters. Looks easy to fix later on.

My E91 used to do that, maybe its just a BMW thing from that era, Could even be FL/PFL difference?

Both my pfl and facelift do it. Just a bit of a “newer” bmw quirk i guess. Too used to older ones like the e39 M5.

How long are we talking? I haven't noticed that. One of mine wasn't driven for a month.

Seems like a strange thing to do.

Like today drove it to get groceries and back. About 15mins each way. Opened the boot about 10mins after arriving home and the fuel pump turned on for a split second. It’s as if it’s making sure there’s enough fuel pressure in anticipation of the next drive…

The pump also briefly primes about 10mins after opening then closing a door.

Has an error for the intelligent battery sensor so could be related.

Rescued another one to restore and move on, think there was a post about it on here. Terracotta leather will look loads better in a black car, plus the oil temp gauge is helpful for track days. :)

  8. Have racked up about 1500kms since the camshaft surgery and all is well. Great car to drive, rewards smoothness especially with the clutch. Penrite synthetic in the gbox has significantly reduced the notchy shifting. Wof and rbf next week then Hampton Downs on one of 2 dates end of month that isn’t expecting rain.

  9. Scrubs up well. New rear brakes and handbrake adjusted. Will order a new pair of discs and my go-to track pads for the front. Gearbox oil and some RBF and she’s ready for Hampton downs end of next month.

  10. No more ticky diesel like n52!

After hunting around for a good exhaust cam and bearing ledge and no luck I pulled a good one out from a pickapart car.

I should’ve done this the first time round i opened it up, the old cam had alot of play resting in the ledges. Happy days!

    Cleaned up the replacement :

  11. Had a decent go at cutting and polishing. Lots of trial and error along the way but getting the hang of it…

Test area to see how hardy the paint is.

On to cutting the fr guard.

    IMG_4327.jpeg

Then the sides and the roof, which I never thought would come up well, lots of deep scratches. Gave it a wet sand first.

After cutting the sides and roof I expected this sh*t to appear under bright lighting..

Up until now i’d been using a rotary polisher so i switched to a DA and got rid of most of it.

Happy how it turned out :)

Got the hatch and bumpers to do. Won’t bother with the bonnet until i can find a straight one with saveable black sapphire metallic paint.

  12. No bueno. Still makes a racket so guess i’m up for a replacement long block at some stage. With the new large disa it goes really well, will see how many trackdays it lasts. Pulled the oil filter out after 100kms of driving on fresh oil and there are no shavings or metal bits. I even tried proma Mbl8 snake oil.

  13. Chipping away at re-assembly while waiting for parts. An old coil must’ve been arc’ing on cyl 6 as the Mg has blown out turned in to dust. Had to clean alot of crap out of the spark plug well. Cleaned up the corrosion out of all 6 holes then brushed 2 coats of epoxy enamel to give it a seal. Giving some high heat jb-weld a jam on the blown out damage..

Vanos oil strainers had no sludge but a couple of small bits of swarf on them.

    IMG_4290.pngIMG_4291.png

Gave everything in the engine bay a good clean to help with future traces of oil and coolant leaks. 😄
